Question will it fit?!

i have a 1985 Jaguar xjs, and the lousy lucas wiper motor that came with the car crapped out. i would like to replace it with a later model (1993-1996) i still have the plastic grill for the 85, would this be able to bolt up? i know there werent many changes in the xjs line throughout its run, and i would like to get rid of the lucas garbage. OR anyone had theirs rebuilt? i called 2 places and they rebuild electric motors but not wipers lol thanks!

On an old xjs project I swapped my broken '82 wiper assembly with one from an '89. One from a '93 you will probably have difficulties especially when they started painting the grilles the color of the car. It might be possible but you should be fine with any pre-facelift wiper motors. It sounds like you have already taken it out but if you haven't it takes some brute force to get it out.

did some research.. It sounds like there were two types of motors used during the production. One by Electrolux and one by Lucas. I couldn't find when they switched from one to the other but as long as you get the same kind you should be ok.

they switched in 88 i believe, Lucas would short out when water got in it...being a wiper motor this is a terrible design since its not water proof lol. Also i do have it out, i was afraid there were a few screws i missed until i got frustrated and it popped out. idk if i want to try to make the 90's wiper to fit because if it doesnt then that's 200 out of pocket for something i cannot use. Although i cannot find one that will fit ANYWHERE, ebay, craigslist, advanced auto, napa, r&s Strauss, 3 junkyards and an electric motor rebuild place haha

There's the Lucas (up to vin 152xxx), Electrolux (up to vin 179xxx) and then a third kind used 'till the end. I don't think any of them are directly interchangable.

Lucas to Electrollux might be doable if you have a donor car to get everything you need...which probably would mean a different switch as well. Not 100% if the circuits are different but I think they were. AFAIK the thrid design is entirely different....not sure if a swap would even be possible.

The Electrolux motor is faster, in my experience and would be a worthwhile swap for that reason. I'm not so sure it would be any more reliable, though, given Jaguar's choice of location and the tendency for the plenum drains to clog.

Cheers
