The sender has three wires coming from it. One is an earth (black wire connected to the tab on the metal body of the sender unit). The other two go to the gauge (one is the low fuel warning light, the other works the gauge). In the boot RH corner somewhere will be the loom connectors for the two. Also check the earth wire goes to a good clean earth (normally found on the boot RHS exhaust tunnel top).

The picture is a bit small so my identification of the wires could be wrong but the two wires shown in the picture with the large boots on them look like the wires for the fuel pump. Are those the wires you are referring to?

Brinny
Are the wires you want to know about connected to the fuel sender or to the fuel pump? You have said both so far!

I have 2 connected to the sender and 2 to the pump. I also have 2 spare as shown in the photo. I will try to post a bigger picture.

Where is the other end of the wires that you want to know about connected to? Or at least where do they disappear to?

My 89 too. I think the looms evolved as new components came into being/changed in some way but because a lot of these changes happened piecemeal rather than at a certain cut off point the looms sometimes needed to suit both setups.

OK Brinny, I follow it now, apologies, I thought from your first post that they were attached to the sender. Maybe a CD changer loom wire? Or something needed on the convertibles?
