Default Won’t start

I purchased my 89 XJS V12 and had it shipped to me. Prior to purchase, the previous owner provided recent videos on f the car being driven. When it arrived, I drove the car and it was strong. I had to undo the battery as a warning buzzer continued to sound even after the ignition was turned off and key removed.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the bezel around the key insert was bent and slightly split, as if sometime in its history, someone may have tried to steal the car.

After a couple of weeks, I attempted to start the car and take it to my mechanic. It would not fire up. I had it towed. When my mechanic tried to start it, it worked. Subsequent to that, it has not started. It is getting fuel and spark.

Any ideas on what may be an issue and would a push button start work?

Hi JD

Maybe your Car had or has an immobilizer that is semi functioning, if indeed someone did attempt to steal that car prior to your purchase

If you remove the drop down Panel under the ignition switch, you may be able to see if the wiring near the ignition switch has been messed about with
