Default Wrapping exhaust headers

I've seen article after article stating wrapping exhaust headers are either the greatest thing ever to reduce heat and increase performance or that they are a disaster waiting to happen.

My opinion is, if it can reduce engine bay heat by a decent amount, that it may be worth it. Curious on your thoughts and especially curious if there are those who have wrapped their exhaust headers and what the results were.

Wrapped headers fail very quickly as for some reason it attacks the metal. I used to know why but have forgotten! Getting them ceramic coated IS a good idea though and is very effective at heat reduction.

I wrapped my right side downpipes and back about 18" some years ago due to the heat stopping my new hi_-torque starter being allergic to summer engine temps, never had a prob since.

i think this is the route I will go. Any other parts that would benefit from a ceramic coating?

FWIW....

Since I don't have any of the factory installed heat shields (which protect the steering rack) I wrapped both downpipes with "header wrap". I, too, can report "no problems".

Cheers
