Default XJS Air Intake Tube

I am a new member and I have a question about my recently purchased 1995 XJS 2+2 convertible. Can anyone give me advice on how to fix a problem I am having with the air intake tube?
The flexible connection clamped onto the air filter housing keeps coming apart from the top plastic intake tube and because of the close proximity to the radiator fan, when it comes off the tube, it gets chewed up by the fan blade.
The previous owner 'rigged' the problem, but is coming apart regularly. I did find a used complete plastic tube with flex at an online parts store, but it's happened again!

Check the entire air intake system to ensure that all suspensions are still good and intact.

Newington,

You haven't said in your post or your signature, but I assume you're talking about a 4 litre model?

If all the fixings are intact, there is no way the flex-section can become detached from the intake tube or the filter housing. I always find it a nuisance that I have to remove the intake tube and undo the filter housing mounts to get that tube apart.

Can you show us photos of your setup? It sounds like you have a problem with either:

- the fixing of the air intake tube to the radiator top panel
- the fixing of the flex section to the filter housing
- the mushroom mounts of the filter housing to the inner wing

Compare your car to the 3 photos of mine of those 3 areas.

Cheers

Paul

Thank you very much for your replies Keesh and Paul, I really appreciate it. You are correct Paul, mine is a 4 litre....I sent my post before I added my signature, lol!
After investigating further, I have found that the mount to the filter housing (number 9 on the illustration) is faulty or incorrect and is allowing the filter housing to 'hang' lower, therefore creating a downward curve at the flex section, thus putting a strain on the joint at the intake tube.
I'm sure I can fix this once I source the correct mushroom mount. I also need to source for a new flex section if at all possible. The used part I purchased from Jagbits included the air intake tube with the flex section and that those were not available new any more, so the one they had came with the flex section, even if those parts were separate. That was a bit pricey, but I bought them anyway, but just used the flex section. Maybe you could offer ideas for a seller of these parts?
