Default XJS Broken Tail Light Temporary $5.00 Fix

I've been shopping around for a tail light for my 1994 xjs and I have had no luck finding anything. I need both sides. What I currently have is trashed so I found a way to make my own plastic mold as a temporary repair.

XJS Tail Lights - a set on Flickr

I purchased tinted plastic from Tap Plastics and put it in the oven at 275 degrees. I then molded the plastic to the shape of the tail light. I attached the plastic with glue on the side that is completely trashed (see the photo). It looks way better. Though I would like to get a chrome frame for that side, if anyone has a cracked light they would like to sell with a good frame?

I am goin to do the other side and pull the light, making the plasitic mold that I make fit nicely in there by completely removing the current plastic. I left the plastic in on the trashed side since I plan on redoing that as soon as I find a frame.

I think it looks fine.

Total cost: $5.00 plus some glue.

Not bad at all; very clever.

SNG Barratt sells the tail lights. It won't be cheap though...

You should also troll around eBay looking for parts cars. Sometimes people post the entire car and are willing to strip pieces off.
