Default XJS Sump Tank Drain Plug?

Quick question for the brains trust; Is the sump tank magnetic drain plug supposed to have some form of gasket or O ring? Mine didn’t when I removed it and there isn’t one shown in the parts manual (but maybe that forms an integral part of the drain plug).

Interestingly it didn’t leak, so is it safe to assume it is simply a precision metal to metal seal?

Cheers;

Sump tank. Is that the oil sump or the fuel sump? I think the small fuel tank is more often called the surge tank, but I've seen it called both.

For the fuel tank, the drain unscrews but I've never had it all the way out. I think its a fairly normal fluid drain, as you'd find on a radiator or similar.

For the oil pan. Mine has a copper gasket. I think its 16mm ID, but I'm not certain.

Hmm, I didn’t think these had an oil sump tank? Nonetheless, it is the fuel sub tank that I am referring to, per attached.

Do you mean the fuel return tank with the small filter in it. Ie small black tank under the battery. Number 5 below Yes the drain plug just comes out and accessible under the car through a hole. Mine just screws in and it doesn't leak.

Sorry, to complete my post. No gasket or ring on mine either. I guess it may be a NPT thread to seal it up.

Yep. Just wanted to be sure that was the case, before I reassemble everything after cleaning the mess inside the tank and having my injectors serviced, as they were full of crap that had mad it’s way to them over the last 30 years.

Thanks;

It seals on the tapered portion of the drain plug. It is designed like a brake bleeder. It seals on the taper, with no gasket, and will drain by just loosening the drain screw, it does not have to be removed to drain. At least if it isn't plugged.
