Default 07 XK - Intermittant Steering Creak

I drive an 07 XK with 39,000 km. About once or twice a drive when turning at slow speeds (ie. into a driveway) I hear a creaking coming from the front end. It is intermittant and never occurs at higher speeds. Seems to be when slowing down to turn.

Anyone have an idea about what this could be? My warranty expires in Jul and I really want to get the shop to investigate. Intermittant issues are always so hard to get fixed.

Cheers,

Stephen

Did you ever find the source of the noise? I have the same issue.

You may want to try lubing your tie-rod ends and ball joint sockets as well as putting some graphite on your suspension bushings. This was a problem also noted by some S-Type owners.

FYI...I had the same problem and it turned out to be the front break pads. According to the dealer, there was a recall on the front pads (somthing with the thick ness of the metal) which caused the knocking noise when you come to a slow break (or when u turn the wheels)...hope this helps...

Can you lube the front end fittings? Most of the newer cars have sealed bushings and joints.

What are the bushings on the XK/XKR made of? Some have gone to polyurethane.

Sooo... My wife's XK does this. Is this an area I can easily get to to do it myself? That steering creak is really annoying. I feel like the instructions on the TSB SOUND easy, but... And who doesn't need a Squeaks and Rattles kit? Am I right?

The creaking would be suspension related no doubt you will find worn-ouf/perished bushes in the front end
