Default 07 XKR hatch will not open

So when you push the button to open the back up on my 07 xkr you normally get a "ker-thunk" and it opens. Now when I push the button on the hatch or dash or key fob it goes 'Click" and no open. Things that make you go Hmmmm. Any ideas?

Does the emergency release inside the hatch (presuming there is one) does it pull out in the direction of the length of the car or the width of the car. Can I fish something under the cover behind the rear seats and snag it to pull on? Anybody run into this yet? I've had to drill access holes behind the licenses plate on XJ's to get them open. Sure don't want to go that route with Aluminum. Car lives on a tender with a new battery.

Do you get the same result with the manual key blade in the slot in the lid?
On my 07 vert, the release handle is left of center, while the mechanism it works with is just 'right' of center of the lid. So pulling to the left side of the car is probably optimum, but I suspect it would work if pulled any direction.

If the electrical latch release has failed, the mechanical cable link to the keyway should still work.

Here's the relevant page from the Parts Catalogue:

Did not see a slot for blade. But I did not look for one. Will do so after work. Thanks.

Should be to the right of the license plate, though I've seen some posts that say it under the plate (which may apply to a wider non US plate, I'm not sure), but it's there.

So, is there another key to fit the slot or will a screwdriver do?

Yep right were it's supposed to be. Silly me. So the emergency release does pull out length ways and would be an easy snag if ever needed as an option. The car alarm did not like the blade as the car was locked, but I sure did. Latch just needed to be reset and is working fine now. "ker-thunk" I'm sure glade you all showed me the light before the wolf wandered out there and opened it. You know... then comes the "really" look.

There's an emergency key blade in your key fob, push the button on the edge of the fob to release it.
