Default '08 XK grill bar emblem

Has anyone ever attempted to remove one of these from the front grill? I wish to replace mine with a simple center emblem, however, I'm concerned that its removal will leave marks or otherwise damage the existing grill.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Syd,

From your SigPic, it looks like you have the same Dorchester Grey mesh grille (item 14) with the chrome splitter vane (item 19) as I do.

The vane is clipped to the mesh and there's no reason why removing it should cause any damage. You will, of course, have to remove the mesh grille to be able to access the splitter vane clips.

Thanks so much, Graham. Great information. I'm assuming to remove the grill, I would also have to remove the bumper cover. That's a lot of work for such a minor mod. That splitter vane is starting to look pretty nice.

I'm not finding mine too much of a eyesore either.

If you are going to go to the trouble to do this, consider the Adamesh upper and lower metal mesh grills and emblems (either original or later model) .
chrome accessories | jaguar xk | jaguar xkr | jaguar x150 .

These are top quality and are really more appropriate to the car than the plastic grilles IMO.

I have them on my car and no regrets.

WhiteXKR, those metal grills do look very nice. I priced them on that site at $450 - delivered and probably another $100 for local taxes and duty. As I certainly couldn't do this myself, I'm guessing a body shop would charge another $500 labour, so all-in, I figure the mod would be $1,000 easy. That's a long way from my first thought of unscrewing a couple of clips to remove the existing splitter and adding a new emblem. I had guessed this would cost $50-75. As I said in my previous post, the existing setup is looking better and better.

Default Mina Gallery Grilles for XK and XKR

Mina Gallery offers two styles of woven stainless steel mesh grilles (upper and lower) for both XK and XKR (X150) models. The first is Aston Martin style and the second is OE style. They both have triple-plated chrome surrounds. They install without removing the bumper cover and simply screw on top of the OE grill using tiny SS screws. The SS mesh completely covers the OE plastic so you don't see it unless you're up close and really look for the OE grille. Clever. But you still have to remove the Growler from the old grille. The grilles are also available in black mesh with a black surround.

Unfortunately, Mina doesn't offer a SS grille to cover the painted plastic mesh area under the lights on the 2007-2009 XKR bumpers, which would complete the look.

The Aston-style set (upper and lower) is $450 and the OE-style set is $300.

Here's the link: Jaguar XK8 & XKR Mesh Grille, Spoiler, Headlight Bulbs for Jaguar XK8 XKR Then click on the style and model (XK or XKR) link.

Aston-style on an XK: Note it has no center Growler.

OEM Style on an XKR: With the center Growler.

I am not affiliated with Mina Gallery and don't have their grilles on my car, and am simply mentioning this for your information.

Here's how to install it, with Thanks to Hawaii: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...a-grill-86472/ Looks like an easy DIY job.

If this was helpful, please click Thanks on the bottom right of this post.

I replaced the bar style grill with black mesh one. Had to remove bumper cover. I'd go with OEM over Mina as I want to keep it as OEM looking as possible.

I too put the OEM wire grill on my XK... Paid about $140-$150 (including center emblem) for the part.

Did you DIY or had it professionally installed?

I was able to remove the emblem without removing the grill. I carefully pry off the emblem with a flat head screw driver. Then there's a back cushion behind the emblem that I then also carefully pried off. This leave just the chrome bezel still in place. I then replaced it with a red emblem. The red emblem needed modification to fit as the 07-09 xk/xkr emblems are smaller than the 2010+.

Use a dremel tool and just saw the damn thing off...after all it's only a Jaguar and not a high priced, high tech Yugo.

Ghostriders fix appears the easiest.

Hi Ghostrider,

that's exactly what i want to do with mine, just remove the bar without removing the grill.
I understand the chrome bar is held with some screws, where do they fall then? Do they fall behind the old grill and stay there???

Thanks

Laurent

Your numbers sound pretty high. I replaced mine with the black metal one and I don't think I was into it for more than $500 total???

Was it the kind that you screwed on to the existing, or did you take your bumper off. If the latter, did you do it yourself, or did you have a shop do it?
