Default 2006 Convertible - hood won't close - STUCK !!!! (NOW RESOLVED)

Hi all

Tried my hood (working fine last few days) - it partially opened and then stopped. Tried the manual reset procedure: turned the Allen key in the pump (rear luggage compartment) 1 turn anticlockwise but when I tried to fold pull the front of the hood down as the manual suggests it wont budge. Hood is now partially open with windows down but won't go up or down (but i can hear the hood motor running)

Any thoughts welcome from others who have had the same hood problem !!!

I don’t recall if it is only one turn, but you do need to give the hydraulic pressure time to release.

As said above, I'm guessing that one turn is not enough to release the pressure sufficiently but I only have personal experience with the X100.

Mine takes about 1 and 3/4 turns until I feel solid resistance, then I wait about 30 minutes, then with a helper ( a great deal easier!) gently push it down

Problem resolved.
Steps below in case it helps anyone else who ends up looking here with the same problem, the leading edge of my hood had stopped 5" from the top of the windscreen:

- carried out the Allen key procedure to release the pump pressure
- waited 30 mins then pulled the tonneau release pull (by the pump)
- lifted tonneau and manually folded roof down, closed tonneau loosely resting on top
- started car and raised roof and all going well but same issue (stopping 5" or so from top of Windscreen)
- did the window reset (lowered:hold down for 5 secs then raised:hold down for 5 secs)
- tried hood again, no joy, still stopping short of the header.
- used the switch to close the hood with engine running then pulled F8 fuse and waited 10-15 secs then replaced
- did the window reset again (lowered:hold down for 5 secs then raised:hold down for 5 secs - cycled 3 times)
- used the switch to close the hood - BINGO, everything working fine !!

Thanks for your help gents.

Hi there,

Just to add, in case others have encountered this!

I had the battery off for a bit, giving it a good charge

I was putting the roof down and it got stuck about 5" from the windscreen. I had to recalibrate the driver and passenger windows before it would carry on.

Nice one. As luck would have it I have found the full Jaguar process here:

- carry out the Allen key procedure to release the pump pressure
- wait 30 mins then pull the tonneau release pull (by the pump)
- find the hidden message by playing Led Zeppelin IV backwards on a 1970s Technics turntable and enter letters 6,7 and 9 into touchscreen

- run around the car 3 times clockwise, then once anti-clockwise while reciting from The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
- do the window reset (lowered:hold down for 5 secs then raised:hold down for 5 secs)
- slaughter a goat on the bonnet/hood

- pull the F8 fuse and wait 10-15 secs then replace
- splash the front headlamps with holy water
- cry a little

- that should work.

Martin, I am glad you solved the problem. While it would have caused you angst, you now know your beautiful car more. Next step is to buy Steves (WhiteXKR) kit for your convertible top.

Just in case this helps anyone avoid this problem.
If the battery is removed, disconnected or gets low and needs recharging. Always calibrate the windows before you touch the roof switch.

I always cycle them with the engine running. Hold the window switch open until you hear the relay click. Hold the switch closed until you hear the relay click. Both windows.

Then operate the roof. I also always operate the roof with the engine running.

Jasper
