2007 XK Base convertible does not start as expected
I bought this car in 2016 and LOVE it. Since day one when you push the start button all of the electronics come on but more often than not the engine will not turn over. I then turn the car off and press the start button and the car will (most often) turn on. I've taken it to my local dealer (years ago) they can't figure it out, my local mechanic, can't figure it out but I think I may have a break in the case and need your help figuring it out. I tried to crank the car the other day, all electrics on, no engine, in a bit of frustration I started pumping the brake pedal and what do you know the engine cranked!
So, what do you think?
Thanks in advance for your help, this has been driving me crazy since day one!

I always use the ‘reverse procedure’ with this car (as stated by Cee Jay above).
- Get in car, don’t touch the brake
- Press and hold the Start button
- Step on the brake
Starts every time.

Thank you for your quick response! I can assure you it is not lack of pressure that I apply to the brake, I have, at times, been concerned about pressing too hard. Normally, I press brake, push start, nothing, push start to turn off, then with foot on brake push start, engine starts.
I'm going to try the push start, then apply brake to see if I can trick her.
I was really hoping for someone to say, you have a bad brake relay switch, or something. The dealer told me there was a 15 second delay on starting it for racing reasons. Apparently, at some point, the starting line was where the drivers were lined up and they ran to their cars and the fastest guy had an advantage, so it's a nod to their racing days. Do I believe that? No.
BTW, assuming that is your car in your picture, really, really, really nice....

The depressed brake pedal causes the brake lights to come on. Does that same switch interaction also close an electrical circuit to allow the starter to do its thing?
If so, then that switch on bedonenow9s car, should be repositioned further from the bake pedal.

I believe that the ABS pressure sensor is the device that tells the engine to crank. see the TSB
