Default 2007 XK Coupe Most Common Issues?

I am thinking about trading in one of my XK8s for an '07 coupe. Before I get any farther and get it inspected I'd like to know what the most common issues are for this year and model. It is the first year (US) of production, which always has more issues, but I've had several Jags so I'm not really scared. I'd like to be able to tell my inspector what to look for, and what would be the "stay away" items peculiar to this car (regular stuff like leaking fluids, rough shifting, etc. I already know). Sorry if there is a list already posted, I could not find one. Neither recall affects its VIN, and I'd like to narrow down the 28 complaints on it from NHTSA if I can.

Thanks!

Look for leather pulling on dash board. Check age and voltage of Battery. Minimum voltage at rest should be 12.6+. If battery is more than 4 years old have it replaced. Check to make sure condensate outlet tube is not clogged and that the heater/ac fan works properly. that's all I can think of offhand. If I have missed anything other members will add additional items. You will find the X150 is a big move up from the X100; though some people think the 100 is better looking. Good hunting.

check the thermostat housing- replace it and thermostat as a single unit. very common for outlet pipe/ thermostat housing to start breaking internally and cause overheating issues.

Check all of the rubber suspension bushings. These often wear out over time regardless of mileage. Agree with ralphwg above, check the leather carefully and use an insulated folding sunshade when parked in the sun or in hot climates. You're in Florida, so don't park it outside without the shade up.

Make sure the telescoping antenna works correctly. I think they're leftover Jaguar stock from 1985. In addition to the thermostat noted above, the nipple on the coolant overflow reservoir gets brittle. Assuming your going to change all the 11 year old hoses, I'd recommend replacing the reservoir too.

Its gonna make you look good, so you will stop caring about your appearance, and more about the car’s health. People will want to talk to you, everywhere. It gets annoying. Mustangs will eat you up alive, but theyre only paying homage. You will gain many fake friends. Only way to offset these issues is to hit the gym, it will make you hotter, and more confident, you will see through the fakeness. Oh and one other thing Ive noticed is that the TPMS sensors are failing by now, replace them with OEM. But dont forget to check everything! Happy shopping!

You've been a Forum member since 2014 but have made very few posts. If you haven't already learned how to use the Advanced Search function, I recommend that you do so as there are many threads that discuss common problems with 2007 models.

From a practical standpoint, because you're considering buying a car that's 12 years old, the "common problems" are just the tip of the iceberg. Due to its age, you also need to be concerned about the uncommon problems. The best way to do your due diligence (if you're not a Jaguar technician with all the diagnostic equipment) is to pay a Jaguar dealer to do a PPI and give you a written report based on the CPO requirements that includes details of the parts recommended, their cost, and the labor time and cost to replace each part. You now have the means to negotiate a lower price from the Seller, which will recoup the cost of that PPI.

Good luck in your search!

Also check the engine and transmission mounts. The rubber may give up just like the suspension bushings

Check if the transmission got service on time...filter and fluid

An '07 XK is just a '04 S type in a sexy body. There's a ton of parts that interchange. In fact I'd say most of the mechanical parts do with the exception of some hoses. I'd also buy an //R. I don't think the base XK is a good value compared to today's offerings. I had a Lincoln LS with the 3.9l Jag V8 and it was an anemic ride. The XKR is an all around better running and more enjoyable ride as long as you don't need more than one passenger. A //R will also eat a mildly modified 5.0 Mustang, trust me...

Another problem is a lot of people are looking at your car thinking its an Aston Martin!

+1 on replacing the water outlet, which contains the thermostat, and having the gearbox serviced with a new pan/filter and electrical connector sleeve. It's also a good idea to change the two hoses going to the EGR valve, one comes from under the inlet manifold and can fail leaving you stranded.

If you don't have a full maintenance history, begin by changing all fluids.

The X150 is a fabulous vehicle, but it's not a sports car. The normally aspirated engine produces enough power for everyday driving, unless you intend to take it to the track, in that case purchase the supercharged model. If you do end up purchasing an R, have the coolant hose under the supercharger replaced as soon as possible as they're a known failure point.

For as long as I can remember, the # symbol has meant "pound", as in weight (sorry you Brits). Nearly everyone I know recognizes # as 'pound'........

So, who the HELL thought #metoo was a good idea????

Hate to be a wet blanket

They would never made an ad like that. They would lose most customers instantly.
