Default 2007 XKR convertible

Hello fellow Jaguar enthusiasts.

This is my first post to please bear with me.

I live in Doha, Qatar (the place where the contentious 2022 World Cup is due to be staged)

I bought a 2007 XKR convertible last year. It currently has just under 50K miles on the clock. I absolutely love the car but have been having a few niggling problems since buying it that I hope might resonate with some of you and advise accordingly.

Note the car is of US spec. It was bought in the US by a very rich Qatari attending university there. He shipped it back to Doha. He subsequently sold to another local, who did some upgrades/modifications, e.g., changed from twin to quad exhaust. And I bought the car from this guy.

The problems bugging me the most are as follows:

1) The engine malfunction light on the dash is permanently amber. I have asked the local dealer to investigate. He said there are no problems with the engine. It is caused by the fact it is a US spec car and is not suited to the environment/climate in the Gulf. I suspect it could be something to do with the change from twin to quad exhaust.

2) When I start the engine from cold I get a noticeable rattle. Again the dealer kicked to touch and blamed the car being out of its environment. I think it could be related to the exhaust swap.

If anyone has had similar problems I would be very grateful for some insights.

Cheers
Mattman

If you hear a rattle, does it com from the engine or more exhaust related. When latter, perhaps the catalysator are cracking and cause the lambda probe to send information to the ecu, that causes the amber engine light to switch on.
A Jaguar dealer should be able to diagnose that.

did they run a scan and provide you any codes? If not - see if you can get the codes read to see what is causing the light to come on.

Look at an Aquamist for additional cooling in that enviroment.
