I took this off Wikipedia, I know its not the definitive source, but what is the difference in engines. Where does the XKR-S get its extra power? It also shows there was 410 hp in the XKR-S but has speed limiter of 174?
Jim
This explains its just adjustments to the engine and design but less hp.
The XKR-S is a limited version of the base Jaguar XK that also happens to be the fastest XK in production to date. This was achieved by recalibrating the engine management, with improved aerodynamics, and modified suspension. The top speed has been limited electronically to 174 mph (280 km/h). The XKR-S stands out from the production XKs by its unique badge on the rear, slight bodywork and reduced ride height.
I am looking at this because there is so much talk about pulley modifications and ECU tuning. What did Jaguar do for the XKR-S.
This suggests much more HP in the XKR-S.

Jaguar XKR-S 2008
The real car...
The Jaguar XK (project code X150) is the second generation of the Jaguar XK grand tourer from Jaguar Cars. The vehicle was unveiled in 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show with the first generation's 4.2 V8 engine. The XK convertible was unveiled in 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. A facelifted XK was launched in 2009 with a new 5.0 L V8 engine.
The XKR-S includes a supercharged AJ-V8 Gen III R direct-injection engine rated 550 PS (405 kW; 542 hp) @ 6,000 to 6,500 rpm and 625 N·m (461 lbf·ft) @ 2,500 to 5,500 rpm, raised top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), active sports exhaust, bespoke suspension changes front and rear, 16-way adjustable memory sports seats with carbon-fibre effect leather, reprogrammed Adaptive Dynamics, 20-inch Vulcan wheels and Pirelli P-Zero tyres, standard Jaguar High Performance Braking System.

Here is what is found in a review from Car & Driver:
The GT’s supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 is rated at 550 horsepower at 6500 rpm, and it produces 502 lb-ft of torque from 2500 rpm—identical levels of output as the mill found in the standard XKR-S. Jaguar promises a 0-to-60 sprint in 3.9 seconds, a conservative claim that we believe can easily be beaten. Top speed, somewhat curiously for a track special, is governed at 186 mph. But at that velocity, the XKR-S GT generates 320 pounds of downforce, and it probably wouldn't go much beyond this marker anyway.

Yes, the first XKR-S was made in 2008. It was the precursor to the XKR-75 and the XKR Dynamic Pack. It was Euro only and is described:
The new XKR-S coupe is the fastest production XK to date, providing the Jaguar enthusiast with an even more driver-focused high speed performance experience
Limited to 200 cars – available only in Europe, in both right-hand and left-hand drive
The XKR-S is capable of 0-60mph (0-100kph) in 4.9 (5.2) seconds and has a maximum speed, electronically limited, of 174mph (280kph) – making it the fastest Jaguar since the XJ220 supercar
Revised suspension with bespoke springs, dampers, anti-roll bar and recalibrated Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) further improve the XKR's outstanding ride and handling balance
Exterior styling features revised front air-splitter and side sill-extensions, revised rear spoiler and rear bumper with unique diffuser panel and unique 20" lightweight Vortex alloy wheels
Ultimate Black metallic paint colour with contrasting finish to the grille, sills, side power vents and rear diffuser
Alcon R Performance braking system with red monobloc six-piston callipers and 400mm brake discs at the front, 350mm at the rear
Six-speed automatic transmission with Jaguar Sequential ShiftTM for ultra-quick manual gear shifts in milliseconds, using steering-wheel-mounted paddles
Active Exhaust System ensures refinement at cruising speed but purposeful V8 roar under hard acceleration
The easiest way to spot one is by the Vortex wheels with the red Alcon brakes:
Yes, the 2008 R-S was an out-of-hours & weekends project created by the same dynamics team (Mike Cross, Dave Pook and Matt O'Hara) that worked on the original 4.2 XKR. They wanted to see what the car would be like with a more performance-focussed handling setup. Management liked what they saw, and decided to release it as a limited edition. The same process lead to the XKR 75 and eventually the 5.0 R-S.
I have one of these XKR-S models - they are rare - on the Facebook forums I would say well over 90% of people had no idea what this was - more than one said why the fake RS badge.
I have been in touch with owners from Sweden, France and Spain who have these and I have met at least 2 more UK owners.
So - its really quick - I mean I dont really know what Jaguar done to it but I am not complaining - the interior is all black - its had all the optional extras fitted as standard and there is the 20" Vortex rims and the Alcon brakes and the unique carbon bodykit - the easiest way to spot these is the carbon kit as they are impossible to source, the Allloys and Calipers can be retrofitted - the biggest giveaway of all is the speedo as it will have XKR-S on it as well as the door sills and headrests - the mats are also branded.
Its really unique and special to drive and handles incredibly well, Mike Cross and David Pook were involved in the making of these 200 models as they knew what they were doing
With the horrendous vehicles on the road now and the way things have gone I am glad I made the plunge over a year ago to drive 8 hours to collect this beast

I am sure any owner of a XKR-S will chime in on this thread.
Car and driver correct me if I am wrong - its a USA based medium? The XKR-S in question was never sold in the USA at all - Of the 200 units made 50 were assigned to the UK with RHD models and Spain (1 or 2), Sweden (2) - Germany got the most of the 150 LHD units and Benelux also got a handful.
Because the steering is calibrated differently a RHD rack is £6382 GBP - C2Z25889, but none are available so it wont be a great time if that needs to get replaced.
