Saw this car for sale and it reminded me of this thread... The car has some issues, but still find it interesting that they did the XKR-S face lift... appears to have the RS side stills and rear diffuser as well...

So, if the previous owner would have upgraded to the LED taillights, and put on a XKR back box, instead of the aftermarket exhaust, it would be a real poser, hard to tell from the real thing.
It would probably be awhile before the next owner figured out they'd been shafted.
And if they came to this forum with questions, there'd be some head scratchin' going on.

Looks like a lot of work done on the front end. Nose , headlights and both fenders seems like a lot. Makes me wonder whether it was hit in the front.

First thing I noticed. Definitely a lot of effort was made and possibly a significant cost. The interior looks very well cared for. Makes me wonder if the PO was ever a member here...

If the required parts ever became available to me at a reasonable cost, I would totally do this...

I would have several years ago but with the prices on proper XKR-S examples dropping I think it would be significantly more rewarding to have one of those.

The thing I have to say about putting money into "updating" a car with body mods to emulate a facelifted car or even a different platform newer model (like making an X100 try to look like an X150) is a labor of love. Because it over time seems to be worth the same or less than a non-messed with model. People sometimes do these mods to Corvettes too and it always seems to be at least a loss on what was spent, and often selling for less than the same car if they'd just left it alone.

When I was (much) younger I was in love with the Countach. I figured I'd never actually HAVE one so I considered building or buying a kit car version (ugh). NOW, since I've actually LIVED some life and have changed expectations (and loves, I'd still take a REAL Aventador) I'd not be happy with a FAKE anything. I actually ALMOST bought a Countach about ten years ago for $99,000. NOW I kick myself that I didn't because the prices of the Countach have about quadrupled. The same spec Countach NOW is over $400,000. ALSO, a REAL Aventador can be had for less than that.
Again, more life changes and a little bit of couth........ Aston Martin Vanquish, 2015. Current prices are more than Wifey would let me spend in one shot, so maybe in a few years...
ANYWAY and FINALLY my POINT; First my XK8 and now the XKR have snobbed me up a bit and now anything Fake or Poser isn't for me. Character flaw, maybe, but also maybe just expectations.

For me it wasn't about being a poser, like placing an R-S badge or the like, it was about the design, personally I felt the XKR-S had more character. It is still an XKR under the skin, regardless of trim and performance differences can easily be matched with hardware tweaks and software. Now, it is just not worth it.

As you noted, a Lambo kit car Fiero is no doubt a poser...

The difference here is all of these mods were done on an XK as opposed to an XKR. So if the person who did the mods added the R-S tune to an XKR and did the PAE then for all practical performance factor it would be like an R-S. Only the Vin. would tell the difference.

Cee Jay,
I think you did yourself a favor in not buying that ugly P.O.S. Countach, it rates right up there with a 1963 Plymouth Valiant and any year Prius as one of the ugliest kit car looking automobiles ever made. But the Aventador is very close on the ugliness scale to the Countach. I just don't get it, that the same company that built the Miura before all of these, the epitomy of beautiful Italian design can continue to put out the ugliest designs since then, year after year. Design wise, I'll take my Pantera, every day of the year before I'd ever own a Countach. Buy a Ferrari if you have that itch.
