Are you certain there are newer style key fobs for the XK?

I've actually been wondering about this for awhile - I actually like the new fob style - fits better in the pocket too given the size difference between the two designs.

If you're adventurous, you can crack open your existing key and take out the Transponder Chip, which actually looks sort of like a small graphite ring. Swap it to the new key replacing the existing one. That'll start your car, but as far as using or programming the remote, you're on your own.

Are all X150 keys the same, or are the 4.2L and 5.0L keys different?

My 2009 XKR 4.2L key (top) and 2013 XJ 5.0L key (bottom):

I was quite sure that the X150 keys never got updated to the new design.

My 2010 (5.0L) looks like yours (top pic) so it's not delineated by the engine...

Agree the X150 key style never changed 2007-2015, but the innards did change after 2008.5 MY, VIN >B12814. Also remember, if you were successful using the X351 key, it wouldn't fit in the Start Control Unit which may prove very expensive if you can't start he car when the key battery is low or you have a wireless communication problem with the KVM/RFA.

That's why everyone should keep a spare CR2032 key fob battery (or two) in their glove box. It's easy to replace.

Can we keep it in the center console instead?

It's small enough so you can keep it anywhere that tickles your fancy, wherever that may be! 😈

Should it also be on a maintainer of some sort?

If one still has dexterity and will, they can use their hearing aid battery, by holding it in place in the remote by hand long enough to start the car.

voltage is the same.

i'm going to try program it in SDD.

Absolutely unless the vendor provides a money back guarantee that their FOB can be fully programmed to work with another Jaguar.
