Hello, I have a 2011 XKR and I'm wondering if my trunk is opening correctly? When I press the button on my remote, the trunk unlocks and opens about 1/4", it is difficult to see that it is even unlocked.

With my 2009 XF SC however, the trunk would unlock and then slowly rise fully open - which I prefer. Is my XKR operating normally?

 

Both my 07 XKR and my current 2010 XKR "trunk" work the way you describe for your XKR.

 

Given the fact that the trunk lid on the coupe goes so high when fully opened, then it's probably a safety measure that it doesn't automatically go all the way up on its own.

 

Trunk on XK has got to be much heavier and I would be worried if popped up all the way. There would be no way to protect the trunk indoors if it was going to be too high.

To be completely truthful, your XF SC is the abnormal one here. The reason it opens fully is probably more a function of your climate than anything else. The gas cylinders are really only to support the lid when opened, not to actually open it. Here in the midwest, they may work like your XF in summer, [or may not] and like your XKR in winter.
