2012 XKR.. 38,000 Miles. Going on 4th Water Pump
Went in to get oil change and I saw some spots on my garage floor wanted them to check for leak. Just got car back in Feb. After timing chain, VVTx 4, Water Pump fix. Sure enough - Water Pump leaking again. This time the "Jaguar Vehicle Protection Program" i bought at 4 yrs or up to 100k miles via the dealership covered all but:
1- 100 dollar deductible
2- 35 bucks for hoses - Apparently hoses or anything rubber are never covered under these after market warranties?
3- 29 bucks for air flight of parts to have it fixed tomorrow evening.
Just thought id share... THESE PUMPS ARE STILL FAILING....
between Feb and Today I drove it 5000 miles. Was taking it in for oil change and told them I had some spots on my floor check the underside for oil/fluids leak.

Why are they changing the hoses, are they bad? If they failed because of the pump failure then they should be covered. But it sounds like they are changing them "while they are in there" for the water pump. In that case it is on you under most contracts. The gaskets and fluids should be covered also since they were lost due to a covered part failing.
Water pump failure is known, hoses failing seems suspect. Especially if they changed them a while back.
So far so good for me on the water pump, no failure to report. I have only had it for 6 months so plenty of time to modify my statement...

I am curious as to which MY this problem affects the most. Seemingly the 2010's are most susceptible, and also the MY 2011 & 2012. It would be interesting to see how many 2013/14/15's have had the water pump failure issue. Perhaps because the latter MY's may have many fewer miles logged the issue just hasn't shown up yet, or the upgraded parts may have solved this issue on the later MY's.

it leaks or your water temp goes up causing your coolant to overheat and warning lights to come on. The usual tall-tell sign is leaking coolant from the front of the engine often seen on your garage floor. If caught early it leaks a bit of coolant, if caught late it blows out coolant in a seen not unlike fourth of July fireworks

When you do your normal weekly fluids check you can see if the coolant in the coolant tank is low. If so fill it to it's cold mark. Also smell the coolant because if it starts to leak you will know what the smell is. Also check the garage floor and see if it has any stains. If you see coolant levels change then you might have a problem.

I feel like a slacker, I haven't opened the hood in 6 months, might be another 6 before I have a need to go in. Maybe never?

This is not normal as there is not sufficient data backing up that the 5.0L engine has a WP problem. We don't have a large enough database to determine if this is a problem. Also when I asked my Albany Jag dealer service manager if they had any WP failures in the 5.0L engines he told me he has not seen any in the 8-10 years he has been with JLR. I don't know what the failure mechanism is so I can't tell if it is the same failure. If it is I would look at this particular car and see if there is a unique cause for the failure. I think this car has had abnormal problems so I wonder if this has something to do with it. I'd like to see the JLR data but I bet we couldn't.

Early warning is the distinctive aroma of antifreeze when you're standing in front of the grille. Also look for tell-tale signs of red-orange leaking fluid or spatter inside the engine compartment up front behind the fan. Don't wait to get it replaced; catastrophic engine failure can result without any warning.
The 5.0L water pump is a known defect. Any dealer who claims he doesn't see any failures is blind and lying. There have been at least 4 versions of the 5.0L water pump so far. See my thread on the XJ Forum (X351). Mine was replaced under warranty at around 30K miles.
No water pump issues on my 4.2L XKR.
