2012 XKR-S on Bring a Trailer
Given the prices people bid on "Brains are Toast", I'd expect it to push $200k!
Here's the last one that sold there:
2013 Jaguar XKR-S for sale on BaT Auctions - sold for $50,000 on December 7, 2020 (Lot #40,127) | Bring a Trailer

It would benefit all of us if prices were to skyrocket. Not if we would like to UPGRADE though, that'd be about a wash.
Even if the value of my XKR was to hit $50,000, what would I swap it for? There really isn't anything out there with the panache and punch these things have for the price, even the price doubled.

I showed this list on B.A.T. to a friend today who after getting a C8 Corvette hardtop convertible about 3 months ago, got offered $25000. over what he paid by a private party and sold it last weekend. Since he doesn't want to use his Pantera as his grocery getter, I told his to look at this. He's considering it since he loves the color, he knows how much I like my car, and he'd have about $75,000 change in his pocket from what he sold the 'Vette for. I'll let everyone know what happens.
$70K!! I thought it would go in the $45K range. Boy, was I wrong. I think people are starting to see the value of the x-150. And being an -S didn't hurt it.

You may consider a DB9 an upgrade but an upgrade in what? Bragging rights? Status? Certainly performance wise, it's a downgrade. And I guess every review I ever read when the two cars were contemporaries, much to the surprise of the reviewers came to the same conclusion. As wonderful as they thought the Aston was, every review I ever read had the reviewer picking the XKR as the car they'd rather go home with.

Not an upgrade at all.
The fit and finish of an Aston Martin is so far beyond anything Jaguar offers. It's easy to say if you just look at the spec sheets but if you have sat in or driven both, XKR is definitely out of its league.
I do think the XKR is a better value, but at $50k, the only thing the Jaguar has over Aston Martin DB9 is self serviceability.

At 50k and 25k depreciated, I still pick the XKR.
But if both are at 50k, the XKR isn't even close.
I test drove an 09 Vantage, an 08 DB9 and a '10 XKR three years ago. They were all a similar price but I came home with the '10 XKR.
As much as I would like to have owned either of the other two, the XKR is a much better drivers car and as mine is a daily driver that was my most important consideration.
The Sportshift gearbox in the Vantage is awful and the DB9 was all on or all off power wise. In the XKR I only have to lightly touch the accelerator and a downshift or two later the horizon starts coming towards me very quickly!
I would have had to buy a late model Vanquish to get anywhere near the same performance and that was three times the price of the XKR then and still is.

Engine sounds, the looks, engineering, construction, the smell of the leather, the steering feel... It's those things.
That was incredible for the XKR-S to hit 70K and it's worth it too! Great to see recent higher values for the XK range.
I wonder if the market will hold.
