There's probably a name for the styling direction that most manufactures have gone with over recent years, "chiseled" and "aggressive" come to mind, and you've seen this influence creeping in at Jaguar. It seems to be working for others, and Jag probably feels it needs to follow suit to attract new and younger buyers and get its sales numbers up.
The XKR-S bodywork changes reflected that direction and this all-new XK more fully embraces it. I far prefer how the C-X16 blends modern and classic design elements into a clean and cohesive design, with this new XK looking more like a panel of designers chose elements they liked from different cars and tried to incorporate as many as they could on this new one.
The industry and public will probably love it, while the more traditional XK owners will be the last ones to the party. It'll probably be drop dead gorgeous when seen in the flesh!

Looks more blocky and distinctly more exaggerated. That said our '07 and newer cars are gonna look dated soon. Bummer...
Like the current XK, I'm sure it will look much better in person. Definitely going for the aggressive thing, only maybe more muscle car than I'd have expected from Jag. But I like being surprised by car brands, so I'll keep an open mind. And maybe an open check book

I really dont like it. Jags are supposed to have a svelte feline shape. This is dangerously close to morphing into a boxy Chrysler or similar.
Especially the bigger grill looks American brand X. I much prefer the oval grill My 08 has, its all Jag and is far more elegant. I like that my car retains hints of British classic racing lines/Jag heritage, which sadly Ian Callum seems determined to kill off.
I think I read somewhere that Callum said the oval grill would be going away totally in future. I guess this confirms it. :-(

I have to think that the current series of XK will have good collector's appeal...especially if new Jaguar design goes in another direction, thereby making the current ones more desirable to those wanting the more traditional look. Hybrids will become the norm for daily drivers, but tire-shredding monster engines with a wonderful exhaust soundtrack will always delight!

I haven't seen anything on what the next gen XK will look like. I've read the rumors and the claimed hearsay...but I think Jag will probably keep it secret for obvious reasons.
I do like the CX16, although the front end needs to be toned down some in my opinion...looks too much like a Maserati. But if the new XK goes in the way of the rendering such as with an XF styled front end, it may be time for me to move to Aston. I'm not a big fan of that big "Ford" front end look.
It's crazy, but while I get a lot of "your car is beautiful" I have also gotten "that car is really a Ford". Aside from making my stomach upset, I politely correct that statement as best I can.

That's cool if you're into having the latest models and want to keep up but also nothing wrong with keeping a car you love.
Best way to keep a car fresh is to mod it. Nothing like new wheels and a body kit to keep it fresh.

It'll be interesting to see which direction Aston goes. All of Ford's new front ends have an almost Aston like face. The new Fusion especially. It's made me a little sad... because that face is going to become very commonplace.

Have to agree with RJC.....look at last year's renderings of the CX16 (they were calling it the XE), nothing close to the real one at the Geneva Auto Show.
The current XK has been out for 7 years now (UK)....hopefully the new one will be out soon.
