Default 2013 XK Coupe - New Ownee

Hi All,

Just a quick first post to say hello. Just purchased a 2013 XK Coupe with Portfolio Package. 15k miles.

I amazed that I can't find any "gotchas" or "beware" threads for this model/year. Am I missing something or is the car just that good.

Thanks in advance; I look forward to contributing to the community.

cheers,

matt.

Congratulations, and of course, we need pictures. However, you really want to tempt fate by asking that question, don't you?

Yeah, I know...but you don't know unless you ask

Hopefully the community will be gentle, at least for the first few posts...

Welcome aboard. My XKR 13 had one fault TPMS computer module needed to be replaced. Also according to some members the 5.0 litre engine tends to suffer from carbon buildup. One way to reduce the buildup is to use top tier gasoline.

Ralph and myself suffered the same TPMS failure, and that is it. Mine after four years and his after three.
Rock solid and not a problem anywhere.

Hi Matt. Welcome.

I too have a 2013 MY XK. I had 2 issues which hopefully wont apply to you.
1) Weak/low battery causing fault codes etc.. - The xk electricals draw a lot of energy from the battery. If you intend on driving the xk a lot it shouldn't be an issue. However, if you dont, I recommend getting a ctek maintainer/charger as a preventative measure. I plug it in nightly and have had no electrical/battery issues since. (If you intend on getting one, ensure that the ctek -ve cable is connected to ground and not the -ve battery post to avoid issues with the battery monitor). There's a lot of discussion in the forum
2) Staining/condensation in my headlights - Moisture got into the headlights somehow and caused permanent staining. These were replaced under warranty.

Other than that its been a solid car that I enjoy year round. I'm sure you'll get many years of enjoyment as well.

Alan.

Welcome, you have a great car that is relatively trouble free. The biggest beware is the same one that is other high-end cars suffer from, infrequent use results in battery fatigue. If you only make short trips around town or let the car sit for days on end look into getting a battery maintainer, CTEK or otherwise.

Of course there are some common issues that come up on the board for our 5.0 liter X150, seems to be a minor portion of the population but just having it mentioned more than than once indicates a "potential" failure. The first and most frequent is water pump/crossover pipe/coolant leak. Don't stay awake at night over it but just be aware in case you smell coolant when you turn off your car. A couple of us had our compressor fail, mine was replaced under warranty. You will know if it happens, you will be blowing hot air on a summer day.

Matt,

The water pump on the 5.0L engine has been prone to premature failure, regardless of the model of Jaguar or Land Rover in which it was installed. Since there is no temperature gauge, your best early warning device is your nose - leaking coolant has a distinctive, tell-tale aroma, so walk around the front of your car and if you smell coolant, get your car checked immediately. See: XJ Forum https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...placed-132537/ XF Forum: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ngines-143771/ XK/XKR Forum: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...011-xk-165247/ There are many more threads.

Depending on climate, the leather dash cover is prone to shrinking and buckling. To minimize that from occurring, always use a reflective sunshade on hot, sunny days. And use a quality leather conditioner to keep the leather from drying out. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...pulling-51324/

Overall, the X150 is very reliable compared to other cars in its class.

Stuart
