Default 2013 XKR Home link button seems very loose

Noticed the other day my main button I use for my garage, got really loose and woobley. My independant said the side ears must have broken
on one side. He is going to check with Jaguar about a replacement for the entire piece of course. Anyone else encountered this? BTW the
unit still is functioning.

I don't have Home link button in my 2010 but I have 3 garage door opener buttons if that's what you mean. Yes, my left button broke and just hung there loose. I removed the assembly and saw where it broke. No tabs, it's a plastic hinge design. I tried to glue it with some caulk like glue since it needs to move when you push the button, but that didn't last. I ended up buying a used assembly from a forum member.

I guess I could have glued it and then programmed the garage to the other button but I'm not that smart.

Shemp,

How did you remove the assembly?

Thanks

The entire housing is attached only by clips. Just gently pull it out each side a little at a time. I was able to get my fingers between the headliner and the housing and shimmy it out. There are wires you need to disconnect once you get the clips loose if you want to remove it. I believe there is a diagram in the service manual but I can't check at the moment. Good luck and be careful!

Programming the middle button is what I did with my XK since I had exactly the same problem with the first switch.
I removed the assembly today to repair the button. It's not hard to remove the assembly and disconnect the wired connector as shemp describes, but it is a bit more of a chore to get to the button. The assembly is plastic welded together at a few points and disassembly takes a little thought and care.
If you're not familiar with handling this kind of thing and taking care with electronic circuit boards, I would leave well alone - There is always potential to break more parts in the process.
I managed to get all the way down to the button in question and epoxied a new hinge in place. This was made with a piece of flexible electronics circuit (made from kapton) which feels the right stiffness for the job and will probably last longer than the original plastic.
The button works now and isn't rattling around anymore :-) I'll probably end up programming all three buttons and sharing their use so they last longer.
I've repaired many such plastic things in my XK over the last couple of months. The driver sun-visor is a good example of something that commonly breaks and hangs down.

If I could buy the part I can replace it, but where should I look for the part Jaguar wants $495.00 for?

I use EBAY and look at salvage companies.

Try asking this one https://www.pacificmotors.com/produc...7-2015/page/3/

Happy hunting.

I had the same problem and had the whole unit replaced under extended warranty (insurance).
