Default 2014 XKR Brakes

Hi everyone

For the 2014 XKR, the standard calipers are painted red, correct? My father is purchasing one, and I'm confused because the calipers are grey/black colored. It doesn't have any versions of the dynamic or performance packs on it. So I'm wondering if these are the stock brakes, and if so why the different color? I'm not aware of Jaguar offering customers the option of making them grey/black unless they're upgraded with one of the packs.

Thoughts?

I believe the color is an option. My 2012 came with red calipers and they are not painted but look like powder coated. They are listed on my window sheet as performance brakes and maybe they come with the 20" wheels. I assume others will chime in here.

Interesting. This car does have 20" wheels, but I think they were standard for MY 2014. When I went on the online builder for MY 2015, I didn't see the option for performance brakes as a standalone choice. Perhaps they were in MY 2012-2014, and that changed for 2015.

If you look at the various used car on line sites (autotrader , cars.com, etc) you will see some with red calipers and some with gray calipers. I don't know how it happens but I assume you need to ask for the color when you order the car.

I thought all XKRs on the 2010 and newer came with performance brakes. The XKR brakes are noticeably larger than the XK, so that part should be obvious regardless of color.

I have not needed to investigate this yet so maybe someone who has done a brake pad replacement can inform us. The question would be is there a different part number for XK brakes vs XKR brake pads. Also the same for rotors. This would refer to the 2010-2015 MY.

Well, I can confirm that the performance brake package was available with grey or red calipers. When my car was specc'd red calipers weren't selected by the original owner. I personally want to paint mine red this summer. I will say performance rotors aren't cheap! 1100$ Canadian to replace just the front rotors/pads this January.

So it looks like the color doesn't necessarily signify the type of brakes fitted. I guess this is where I'm confused though. Were the performance brakes an option, or standard equipment, on the 2010-2015 XKR?

All 5.0 XKRs have the same Teves brakes (except the GT, which has Brembo ceramic discs). "R Performance Red Brake Callipers" were a chargeable option on the XKR; they were standard on some limited editions like the 75. The difference is purely cosmetic.

Go to your Jaguar dealer with the following info and you should be able to get what the car was equipped with new. that should tell you about the brakes/pads whether they are standard or special ordered. Give the dealer your VIN or the VIN in question and he should be able to give you all of the original equipment information.
