Overheating was the reason, oil was mixing with coolant so initially the shop removed the heads to see if the block was salvageable, but it was not, I bought a long block engine to transfer accessories to it and install. The shop has not been clear on hours/cost, its almost ready and I want to go in with a clear understanding of how much labor the book gives for the work.

Who would use plastic for coolant tubes and wants to produce a luxury product that last a few years. I will go back to Germans and the old ones.
Yep, when the rest of the Bimmer or MB is a broken debacle and you've already spent countless thousands, at least your coolant hoses won't maybe leak.
Hey pal pulled up the shop hours from my dealer software for you so you can see the various hours depending what they did for you but looks to be about 22.5 hours in labor it's quoted for so shouldn't be anything over then that. I have attached here as a PDF for you. I did it based on a 2010 but same engine so everything is the same.

that’s what they did first.
Thanks in advance
For the heads the book is calling for about 40 hours to Remove & Inspect both banks and transfer all the components so I don't just have a time to just do a inspection on the heads but usually a compression test is 2-3 hours in the shop and that's what the book is calling for. Hope this provides some guidance for you?
Because that’s what Jaguar Land Rover Ford use… though not because they are plastic, some have since been redesigned. The old design failed prematurely because they were two half tubes fused together and the seam would begin to weep and then leak. The front crossover was redesigned to be one piece with no seams. Unfortunately the rear crossover, for what ever brilliant reason, is still a 2-piece fused with no redesign, I know because I had to replace mine last year and while a newer updated part number, the design was identical to the original.
