What is the Weight of an XK 3.4L engine?

 

I'm not sure, but engine and gearbox on my old Series 3 was about 600 lbs I think. Certainly if you're doing any lifting of it you need to make sure the tackle can handle this sort of weight. Heavy duty engine stand is also a must if your rebuilding the engine. There is a lot of weight there !

 

Thanks for the reply. I got tired of looking around elsewhere and not finding any details about engine weight, so I tried the Jaguar Forum and got the answer! Yes, the XK engine is heavy, having changed one before. Just wanted to confirm just how much it weighs. Looking forward to Spring weather to tackle a rebuild.

 

When I had to lift out engine and transmission in the early 90s I made sure I checked-out the weight. In my case it was to replace the block as mine was cracked. This started over 2 years of work on the car ! One job just leads to another - "engine's out so I'll tidy up the engine compartment, oh, those wings don't look good, my God, sills are on the way out........."
