Default 3 times now won't start

Sigh...3 times now the car wouldn't start and lights flashed like low battery..

Jumping it didn't work..
Started pushing buttons after an hour and she finally lit up..

After reading many forums..."locked in security" mode?

New battery...

did hard reset and charging battery as we speak..

Today is my wife's birthday..she WANTED to take the XK.
Frustrating..

Press and hold the START button first, then step on the brake pedal. I know, the Owner's Handbook says otherwise, but trust me it works.

The worst thing you can do is repeatedly step on the brake pedal. "Pumping the brakes" makes it harder to start, and you may need to step on the brake pedal with both feet and all your might to get it to start.

Nope.

When hit starter button lights flash outside inside like low battery.

You know someone is going to ask so might as well be me. What is the battery voltage reading at the terminals?

Yes, it's been discussed to nauseum, but the battery condition (regardless if it is new) MUST be eliminated before proceeding as it causes total chaos on an already fragile electrical system.

But if it was the battery..

Why would jumping it fail?

in reading the other thread it is most likely

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER..

interesting statement about key fob placement.

Just want to get it started with no tow

WELL IT STARTED...

now have to figure out if it's the cluster or other issue

It appears it wasn't the battery so the question is why did you try to jump it?

Next thing is to check for DTC's. Buy this. you won't regret it and don't need to be a mechanic. It will give us something to go on. Otherwise everything else is just wasted time guessing. helluva good price on it too.

Amazon Amazon

Default Locked out

It started right up.

Key next to window on unlock

Definitely locked out...

So would the scanner point to the cluster if failing?

I am a great mechanic..on old jags!!!

All new to me..

Previous cars never had a single issue.

Hanging in there

Apologies. I'm not clear. When the voltage of the battery was read, how much time had passed since it had been connected to the charger or the boosting effort?

You've heard it before... readings are only useful after a significant wait time to ensure battery comes back to equalization. That's why the dealer usually keeps it overnight. After 6 hours, give it a read so that we can rule it out and get on with it.

Understood, but I use it for a lot of things when I don't want to connect SDD. Works great for me and I know others like it too, but you need to be happy with it. The great thing about it is that it reads all codes, Body, chassis, engine etc. Make sure whatever you choose does the same.
