That's is a fast trap speed. Can you post your timeslips please? What was your 60ft, 1/8th mile ?
what was density altitude is at that track at the time of your runs?
My best so far is 13.15 at 107mph trap but this is at 3650 ft density altitude, so corrected is around 12.9 and 109mph.

+1 on seeing the time slips please!

Jump from 109.98 to 113.19 trap speed is a huge gain, you're knocking on the door of a stock 5.0L s/c car, and actually trapping higher than some stock 5.0L XFR's

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...andings-84783/

But the ET is still way down compared to a 5.0L, for example here this 5.0L XKR did 12.243 @ 114mph

They mention in the video comments a 1.79 60ft time, that's the key to getting a good ET, it nailed the launch.

See attached.

I really do struggle to get off the line cleanly which is why my times are so bad. The car is so quick to spin the right rear wheel and the section of track by the start gates seemed quite slippery. It joins a race circuit start/finish straight after a short while and once the car hits that it really digs in and takes off.

The altitude of the race track is around 43m.

These guys didn't seem to have my problem though!

Yes your 2.430 60ft time shows the problem, no traction!

If you could have got traction and a 2.0 60ft time (like I normally get in my XJR, which has the Quaife LSD) then that 13.198 would be about a 12.6, maybe even quicker.

Speed is HP. Time is efficiency. I never worry about the time beyond bragging rights. Your speed tells you how the engine is performing.

Also, I read in the service manual that the inner cooler's plumbing is regulated at 160`F. It shares the degas / fill bottle with the engine coolant. Thoughts on a stand alone setup? Dropping the temps to ambient + 12-20` should pick up a good bit of HP.

I figure Jag does it so they won't freeze up during winter. Maybe do a true split system with a valved connecting pipe for winter. I need to spend some time looking at the flow schematics.

That is a pretty bad 60ft time , maybe time to get good sticky tires. On
my bad day at the track I would be at 2.1 , on a good day I did 1.95
Your trap speed is very nice though, and a good indicator that you have gained hp.

I am certainly enjoying driving the car now that it has been tuned so maybe I will keep it a few more years and treat it to an LSD. Anyone know of a cheap source?

Which ever way you turn it all comes back to the quaife unit

I managed to get back to the drag circuit yesterday and set my worst ever and best ever times:

17.93@99.45mph
13.07@111.55mph

My terminal speed was a bit down on my previous outing and I am not sure if that is because I forgot to fill up with 98, had a full tank of petrol to try and improve traction or whether the day was a little warmer.

For the first run I tried switching the traction control totally off, dipped my rear wheels in the water trough then did a burn out. Traction was awful off the line. I kept easing off then pushing the accelerator again but each time the car would disappear in a cloud of smoke. I still couldn't stop the wheels spinning half way down the track. Judging by the number of comments I got afterwards it was quite spectacular to watch!

After that I used TRAC mode and avoided the water trough and that seemed much better. My 60 times are all still in the 2.2-2.3 secs range so traction is still an issue. The current tyres have been on the car three years now so are probably past their best and I really ought to fit an LSD.

As it was a proper racing day I had to dial in a time after three practice runs and race the other street cars in the afternoon. I made it through to the semi finals but then came up against the guys who run slicks on the rear and race at most sessions so eventually dropped out.

I am planning to get some high flow cats fitted in the next few weeks to try and get rid of the awful stink from the exhaust that I have running with no cats and will probably put the factory resonator back on at the same time to see how that setup sounds. I will then hopefully head back to the track next month so see what affect that has on my power.

Yeah sounds like you need an LSD and some new rubber.

The Quaife has made a huge difference to the way my XKR drives.

But in saying that, the first time I went to the track was with new tyres, but still with the open diff, and it hooked up fine with a 1.95 60ft time, but that was not giving it 100% off the line either.

Hopefully this Wednesday I can get back to the track and see how it launches with the LSD and not holding back.

I didn't realise you already had an LSD fitted so I will be interested to hear how you get on.

Do you have the high flow cats and X pipe fitted yet?

The Quaife is awesome on the street, I drive around with the DSC completely off all the time now, it's so easy to drive, put your foot down and go, standing starts turning left, no problem! Whereas before it would just light up the inside wheel and make smoke.

A lot of this would be down to the new tyres too, got Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in 295 on the back which replaced the 5 year old and 80% worn Michelins which were pretty useless.

Yep 400 cell cats and x-pipe exhaust are in, it's a bit... LOUD! I had to put fuse 19 back in hahaha...

Also had to get the stock tune adjusted because of the cats and pipes, it definitely lost some power and responsiveness after the cats and pipe went in, but it's back to how it was now with the adjusted tune.

We've left everything else stock in the tune to try and get some before & after numbers to compare.

I went back to the track tonight, was pretty warm 32°C but i'm pretty happy with the results.

12.87 @ 108.9mph
12.94 @ 111.5mph

This is still a STOCK tune, the only adjustments in the tune were for the cats/exhaust, everything else; fuel, timing, torque limiters, etc are still stock.

This is pretty much bang on the claimed 12.9 @ 109mph numbers for a stock XKR, so it's a good baseline, next time out will be the big banger tune like what we put in u102678's XKR, with a few adjustments. I'm really looking forward to the results

Looks like I won't need to worry about this quite as much now because a rather nice 2010 XKR appeared on our local auction website this morning so subject to final inspections when it lands in the country I will be the proud owner of my 8th Jaguar!

It has only done 16,000 miles and has most of the options ticked so appears to be well worth the cost of the upgrade. The down side is that it is also black so 99% of my friends and neighbors won't actually notice that I have changed my car!

I look forward to taking it to the drag strip and seeing what it will do though.

Congrats on the new ride (I know, I'm pushing a bit). The 5.0L is a big change from the 4.2 in more than just the engine.

Thanks. I am looking forward to the cooling function of the seats as mine do get quite hot in the summer. It will also be interesting to see if the adaptive cruise is any better in the later models and also how the B&W Premium Sound System compares to the Alpine one.

My current car doesn't have keyless entry so that will be a nice addition and actually being able to see the track names through the ACM will be good as well.

The description field of the car in the factory spec sheet mentions Performance Aero Pack so that is a bonus and it has a real spare wheel rather than a can of something.

JaguarVoice(Japanese) is also listed but I suspect that will be lost once the nav unit is converted to European spec.

It also has Rich Oak veneer which I am not too fussed on but that may grow on me.

Thanks! Do you have any graphs or figures for your tune for the 5.0L yet?
