Default 5.0 XKR - Holding revs/speed when coasting

Hi guys,

I've been noticing lately that when driving slowly around town, my 5.0 XKR is reluctant to coast down to a stop in 'D' mode.

When approcahing traffic lights or a build up of traffic for example, I can let off the gas and the car will coast down to about 25mph, then it will just hold the revs at just over 1000rpm in 4th gear until I tap the brake and then it will continue to change down the gears (and thus slow the car down) itself.

I know it's fourth gear as I can flick the downchange paddle down in to third. It always seems to be this speed and gear where this happens. If I'm trying to coast down to a stop from an initial lower speed/gear, 20mph for example, it will just gradually slow down to the creeping speed as expected.

Has anyone else noticed this? I'm sure it never used to do this, but it may be just that I've not picked up on it before; I've been doing a lot more driving in heavy london traffic lately whilst I've been getting some things done to my daily driver.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers,

Fraser.

"Dynamic Mode" holds higher revs, as does "Sport Mode". Make sure those are both off if you don't like how it behaves.

Yeah I'm aware of the different modes.

This is just an issue when driving around and trying to use the engine breaking to slow down. My car just seems to hold the revs on some occasions instead of continuing to slow down when no throttle is applied, not that easy to explain clearly.

As far as I can determine, Dynamic Mode doesn't do anything to the gear shift patterns. It changes suspension, throttle response and a bunch of other parameters, but shift patterns are controlled by the TCM via the shift selector.

Dynamic makes quite a difference on mine, shift-wise, when Sport is selected especially.

Are you sure that the revs are actually higher? Dynamic Mode also opens the active exhaust valves, so the revs are more obvious.

Since the tachometer raises the numerical indication of engine revolutions from where it was, and it continues to stay in a higher-numerical indication while driving, yes it does.
I didn't realize it as I usually stay id "D" with Dynamic off 98% of the time, but I got a bug in my butt one day and started messing around with it. While putting along a neighborhood street I punched the Dynamic switch and the revs raised a-la downshift, as I was doing a paltry 15 mph with approximately 1100 RPM. The downshift raised the revs to.... can't really remember exactly, maybe 2200? I specifically remember this because I recall that I said to myself "Ooooh, Kitty wants to play".

Default oops

Well, I tried it out again today and evidently it has to be in Sport Mode before punching the Dynamic button for it to affect the shifting, so I don't know if it's Sport controlling the Dynamic or Dynamic controlling Sport.
But anyway, pretty much forget everything I said as evidently it has no bearing on the original post.
