Default 5.0L oil filter cartridge

Having had other cars with an inverted top mount filter how does the inverted cartridge work. My other cars had typical spin on filters with the anti-drain valve built into the filter. I haven't actually looked held the cartridge but based on a few pictures I can't see if there is any type of anti-drain valve in it. So the question here is , is there some type of valve in the filter mount that keeps oil in the filter at start or is there another method of doing this.

I've not changed my own filter yet, but there is no valving on the filter cartridge itself. It is a straight pass-through in the center.

If that's the case how do they prevent dry start up. I also assume if you remove the filter then no oil comes out on the engine so you can do a filter change without doing an oil change.

I don't know if this relates. My 2014 Porsche 981 has the canister filter also. The filter looks identical to the Jaguar 5.0L oil filter type.

Porsche recommends replacing the filter and adding the oil, all; except one quart. Porsche recommends starting the engine for 30 seconds, then adding in the final quart. I assume this is to prevent a dry start.

It's my intent to find out in about three weeks.

I had the WIX installed with my last change, and I have a 1600 mile trip next week followed by a 300 mile trip (to a high speed event) shortly after that.
I've compared the Wix and Beck Arnley, and feel the Beck Arnley is certainly of better construction. (So I had them install the Wix)
Now I'll order a Mann, and compare against the BA, and the perceived looser goes in to replace the Wix.

I hope to walk through the known name brands by changing filters every 2500 miles and oil change (at 5K).
Just curious to see how construction varies between brands I guess....

Its an advanced dry sump system. Also there is always some oil in the canister acting better than a drain back. The oil strategy on the aj8gen3 is some of the best engineering I have ever seen, really small passages however- another reason to keep the engine clean.
