5th Gear vs. Top Gear
I have just discovered that 5th Gear is now available on NetFlix Instant view. Previously I was unable to view 5th Gear online due to the fact that I am in the USA.
I must say that I find 5th Gear to be both entertaining and intelligent. I don't find myself fast forwarding thru segments as I do with Top Gear. Overall I enjoy the format and host much better. Jeremy is funny but his inaccurate "journalism" gets old very quickly. I would add that I think 5th Gear would benefit from the use of a "Top Gear" track.

Top Gear is an uncanny program yet unparalleled . Well, I take it in a good way because TG is entertaining me PROPERLY lol
They show how hard can it be to make a car mag show yet very hilarious
So, 5th Gear doesn't deliver the essence of what TG emits , it's just a car program as what TG used to be .

Almost literally.
When the BBC cancelled the original Top Gear, Channel 5 took it over -same hosts, very similar name etc.
The BBC then relaunched TG as the 'entertainment show based around cars' that we know and love today - and incredibly successful it has been!
Fifth Gear has tried to respond by getting more 'fun'.
Unfortunately this often means Tiff acting like a prat, especially when competing against Jason Plato (not in latest series).
They have used a few test tracks down the years. Notably Anglesey and Millbrook Proving Ground.
The two shows are different and both are the better for it.

What did you guys think of Top Gear USA then?
It's just been shown over here and I think for the first series it was pretty good.

I like and respect Tanner Foust. Rutledge and the "Wrecker" add no value what-so-ever!
IMO 5th Gear has them all beat hands down. It's refreshing to hear opinions about cars from people that know what they are talking about!

It seemed that they were attempting to duplicate the UK recipe but using different ingredients (personalities). The chemistry just wasn't there and it was simply annoying.
Thank goodness for BBC America on satellite.
It feels like a cheap asian crap fake Rolex versus Genuine Swiss Made Rolex , you know which is which lol
Once you watch the original TG , US Version is like copy . It should have been more original and something new stuffs .
BTW, I gotta say this TG is very futuristic program because it says Top Gear whereas 5th Gear is not because we have already cars with 8 Gears tranny lol
I agree the chemistry isn't quite there yet but it did improve as the series went on.
To be fair, if you watch the first series of the new-style Top Gear (which you won't 'cos they don't repeat it) it was pretty awkward and didn't quite work. The second series where James May joined was when the chemistry 'clicked' but the show still had room to improve.
The question is whether TG USA will get the required time?
I must admit I'm surprised you guys like watching some daft Brits playing around with a bunch of foreign cars - but I admire your taste
