Advice needed for brake job 2009 XK
good morning folks, It's time to replace my brakes soon. I have a few questions for you veterans that have done this before.
1. Can the factory rotors be "turned" machined? Or do I need to replace them at each brake job?
2. Is there any special procedure when dealing with the rear E brake?
I am considering using a brake kit from Hawk Performance, has anyone had any experience with this company?

This is the specific brake kit I am looking at.https://www.hawkperformance.com/part...el=92594¬e=
There's apparently a special tool to retract the brake calipers. I tried doing it myself only to be left with massive and seemingly endless frustrations at getting the calipers off because the rotors were dished. In the end I put the wheel back on and took it into the shop.
At least to me , the brake change on the xkr was a straight forward , pretty easy job. Using a cheap $10 cylinder caliper compressor worked great , just keep on turning the cylinder with biscripts so it pushes down while applying pressure with caliper compressor.

There is a service limit for rotor thickness. If they are at or below the service limit, they should be replaced.
If they are within spec and don't show signs of warping, then I would keep them.
If you undo the 2 bolts on the rear E-brake, you can split the caliper in half essentially and remove the rotor without having to mess with the cable or bolts going to the knuckle.
Be careful with the 2 pins and clip inside the e-brake when reassembling. And don't forget the e-brake reset procedure when you're done.

Release the e brake and then disconnect the battery when changing the rear pads. Once you have renewed the rear brakes reconnect the battery and follow the onscreen instructions on your dash to recalibrate the e brake to operate with your new brake setup.

Both my '07 XK and my 2010 XKR are pretty simple to do, and without disconnecting the e-brake.
The piston retraction tool is imperative, but my local auto store lends them out with nothing but a deposit.
The rear e-brake takes a little manhandling, and un-mouning the bracket holding the end of the cable from the caliper. but it is pretty easy after yo have done it once.
Hawk is a highly respected company. Sadly they do not make brake pads for our cars, or I would be all over them!

I done a DIY change to all 4 corners , Discs (rotors ) opted for Padgid discs and pads all round cost was cheap under £500 , an indy had quoted me over £900 plus . I have a JLR icarsoft version11 so after putting car into service mode it was very easy to do
Ah well, ya got my hopes up again!
