I have been getting some steering shimmy under braking - took the wheels off checked the disc run out with a dial gauge thinking I may have a warped rotor - all good.
I noticed that caliper was very close to the disc on the top end, removed the bolts and pushed the caliper back a little and noticed that there is signs of wear where the disc rotor has been rubbing. See pic:
There seems to no play in the bearings so I can't account for this.
If the rotor is making contact with your caliper I have no doubt your rotor is shot .
For future reference to any forum members if you get brake shudder on the brake pedal when applying the brakes it's read rotors if you get shudder through the steering wheel it's the fronts
Thanks guys. I've ordered a new rotor (the current one has very little wear). I'm going to pull the wheel off this afternoon and check the caliper mounting "system".
