Default Alcon Brake Calipers For Sale

Rare opportunity!

I just noticed this in the For Sale section of the Forum - a set of used Alcon Brake calipers (6-piston front, 4-piston rear) from a 2009 XKR Portfolio. He's asking $2500: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...lipers-118733/

I have no connection with the seller. Just thought this might be of interest to someone on this forum.

That looks like a good buy for someone seeking to expand their track car's capabilities. But, aren't the matching rotors rather "spendy"?

Ken,

Yes, the OEM Alcon rotors are expensive but you don't have to use them. The "Alcon" calipers are actually made by Brembo, so they might have rotors or other aftermarket rotors might be available.

Stuart:

The Alcon brake calipers on our cars are made by Alcon UK located in Tamworth, England. I am not sure where you made the determination that Brembo makes the Alcon brake calipers found on the 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition.

When I was doing my research for aftermarket wheels to fit my 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition equipped with Alcon calipers and rotors, I contacted Alcon in the UK. My contact provided me with internal schematic drawings of the 6 piston and 4 piston brake calipers. The drawings are clearly marked Alcon UK. I still have the drawings in my possession, and they are quite detailed.

It is my understanding that on the rear wheel of our cars, the smaller black brake caliper for the emergency braking system is Brembo, but not the large massive red calipers.

Perhaps you can provide some support to show the Alcon brakes we have were made by Brembo. Brembo is an Italian company and makes brakes under different brands, but not the Alcon brand.

Richard,

That's what the Jaguar dealer's service writer told me several years ago when I had my brake pads replaced. Based on your research, it looks like he was mistaken.

Stuart:

Here's just one of the PDF files I have of the Alcon brakes. This PDF is for the rear brakes. I have other drawings.

Rich, Luv the drawings. Earlier in my working career, I was a draftsman. Way before even the CAD days. I was on a table with a drafting "machine" and drawing pens.
Life was much simpler.....Thanks for the PDFs!
BTW, our '04 XJ-R had Brembos. Man, they could really haul the big sedan to a halt!

Ken:

The one PDF posted above is highly detailed and actually shows names and detailed parts numbers for the Alcon's. I have built a large file on the 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition cars and continue to do so. The file makes for great reference material for the future if needed. It would be great to have these PDF's of the Alcon brake calipers printed on a large sheet of paper like 11 x14 or 16 x 20 to see the real detail of the making if these brake systems. I have both front and rear drawings. The drawings were all internal and are not usually disseminated to the public.

These cars are quite rare, so retaining information is very important. I have made some good contacts since my ownership and encountered some good resources and people for reliable information.

UK has a few top players in the brake caliper business.
