Default Anyone else have this issue?!

The last couple of times I detailed my car, I noticed that my factory rims near the center cap are peeling a bit. Could that be caused by brake dust accumulating over time and eating away at the alloy?? Anyone else have this issue? I guess it may be time to powder coat em'!

Are they "peeling" or "pitting"? If you have painted wheels and they are actually "peeling" then there's something very wrong there.

If they are "pitting" then most likely there's been a combination of things (stuff picked up from the road surface) that have damaged the paint and the metal. I don't know if brake dust is caustic enough to break down paint and metal. I wouldn't think so...

It's more that pieces of silver are flaking off. It's not super noticeable but I'm sure will get worse over time. I was washing the car with the hose that isn't high pressure what so ever and noticed it then. I have the painted OEM Jupiter rims.

Did you buy this car new? It looks like the wheels have been painted over once.

No, I didn't buy it new. Bought it in Aug of 2012 with only 25k miles. This rim issue just started. What makes you think that it may have already been painted again? Here's another pic of a diff rim.

ooo... it looks like your wheels may have had a repaint sometime in their life. Are you original owner or was it used?

Rahtok, see above post. Why on earth would rims need a paint job with less than 25k miles?

You can bet those wheels have been repainted.

Reason: I recon somebody tried to clean them with an acid wash product formulated for "uncoated/painted" mag wheels. I've seen it before when I was on the hunt for Jags.

To repair curb rash. It happens all the time. Looks like you will need to get it repaired again. Luckily, I've heard it only costs $150-200 a wheel.

If I'm gonna spend that much on repainting the rims, I'll just get them powder coated a diff color instead for about the same cost. Obviously that paint job, whoever did it didn't last very long so why would I do the same thing just to have the paint flake off again.

You can get all four wheels powdered coated for $150-200?

I doubt all four wheels have been repaired. Probably just one or two, as the right side are the mostly likely to get curb rash.

I think if you get it properly repainted, the paint will last a long time. The last time was probably a rush job by a dealer to get it looking nice for sale.

You said it cost about $150-200 per wheel to get painted again so what I meant was I can get them powder coated for roughly that much per wheel and before this even happened I was thinking for a while about getting them powder coated black. So now with the flaking rims only to get worse it will def propel me to finally do what I wanted. Yes, all four wheels have them. The two pictures are the fronts and the rears have a little bit but not as much flaking like the front ones.
