Default Anyone have a good solution where to put stuff while driving?

Maybe this is a dumb thread, I dunno. I can't be the only one that always struggles with this.

Typically, I travel around with a phone, a wallet and a bunch of keys. I have a hard time figuring out where to put things. Putting them on the passenger seat often finds them flying onto the floor at some point during the drive. I don't like the door panel, as it is not easily accessible while seated in the car with the door closed. I really don't like the windshield mounted phone holders, as it obstructs the view in the already short windshield. I don't like the phone mounts that clip to the vents, as I feel like the vent has the possibility of breaking, and I'd rather not deal with that.

Too bad manufactures don't offer some convenient places to put things while driving around. A built-in place for a phone would be ideal. None of them do this that I know of.

I thought about getting a headrest bag for the passenger seat. Should be pretty easy to reach over behind the seat and grab into it. But...I dunno.

Any solutions?

Thanks.

I don't like reaching into the console for my gun, both hands on the wheel and all that, so instead this is always ready

Keys - pocket (but why a 'bunch of keys'??? I have on key with me when I drive. Drive any vehicle.
Wallet - pocket, probably same one as the one key
Phone - pocket. No reason to have a phone out. OR, tuck it up where the ashtray is or inside the console.
Also, if you have no passenger or a shorter one, have the pax seat forward a ways so you can reach the floor behind the pax seat.

not a fan of driving with stuff in my pockets. I like feeling the seats grip and the road beneath, rather than bulky and pointy, hard metal and plastic things poking at my body and at the leather.

But, as far as keys - I have 2 cars and keep the keys to both with me when I leave. If someone breaks into my house while I am gone, at least they can't drive off with a car too. I have a faub for my home alarm. Keys to my house, a key to my gun cabinet and a key to my work.

Dam what a mess.
I have two cars and a motorcycle, those keys stay at home if I'm driving the Jag. If someone breaks into to house and steals them, I have insurance.
FOB for house alarm -- console
Key to house -- attached to Jag FOB and in my front pocket. It could also go into the console as you cannot lock the car with a FOB in it.
Key to cabinet -- leave it at home, there's nothing you can do with it while driving and if a perp breaks into the house they will smash the glass and grab your guns anyway.
Key to work -- leave it in the console so it will be there if you need it.

The first thing I did was put the removable cupholder away on a shelf in the garage for the duration of my ownership so everything from my pockets fits in the centre console cubby box whilst driving.

Wallet = pocket
Keys = next to wallet
keyfob = opposite pocket
phone = magnetic clamp that fits in CD slot works great.

Regarding phone: I have a variation of these nifty pockets that insert between the seat and the console. I just plop my phone in, and have a charging cable clandestinely nearby.
Regarding keys: There is no solution to a key ring in any proper car ever made. I rarely need keys when in the XKR.... for chores requiring keys I'm usually driving the F150. Plenty of storage space there.
Regarding wallet: A nice slim wallet should always be in your front pocket. If you have something other than a nice slim wallet, route through your stuff and discard what you really don't need, then splurge on a nicely crafted slim wallet. My current Orvis wallet is going on 7 years daily duty.

Everybody should have a home safe to keep valuables and keys and especially guns. I have a smallish safe bolted down conveniently near the back door of my home where I go in and out every day. I've gotten in the habit of putting my car keys in the safe the moment I walk in. Its got rows of hooks on the back of the door to hang keys. I use detachable key rings and only take with me just the keys I'm going to need. It'd be easier for a car thief to hotwire the cars than get the keys from the safe. In addition to security, I never misplace my keys anymore since I started this habit.

But on my soapbox, I would like to pass on an anecdote about gun security while I've got a chance to save you some grief. I'm not into guns like I am into cars, but back in college I worked at an outdoor sporting goods store and learned a lot about gun security from the frequent visits by local police and the ATF who were always there tracing gun paperwork and telling stories. Drug addicts want your guns more than anything because they can trade guns directly for drugs, not having to pawn them them and convert to cash first like they would jewelry or electronics. We had criminals that staked out our store, learned who our frequent customers were, followed them home, learned their daily routine and then broke in to steal their guns. Like our Jaguar forum members, the more often you visit the Jaguar parts counter, the more Jaguars you are likely to own. If you own guns, I implore you to keep them in a safe or at least a locked closet, and please don't display any gun-related window stickers, don't advertise that you own even one, let alone show strangers that you are a gun collector and do not take a direct route home from a gun store or shooting range, rather make sure you are not being followed home from such places.

Sorry to get further off topic, but just to relate it back, if you leave your unused keys and fobs in a safe at home (you should have one for your guns and other valuables anyway), then that's one less thing you have to find a place for when you empty your pockets before a drive. And nobody can easily steal your "other" Jaguar while you're at the parts counter.

Yea, my cabinet is a steel cabinet, not a safe, but not a wood cabinet with glass either.

Went ahead with this from Amazon (image is from amazon). Can swing it anywhere around the passenger seat. Should offer a nice place to keep stuff while in transit.

Glove box or boot. I prefer nothing in my pockets, hang my jacket up behind my seat, then ready for the drive.
I hate stuff flying about the car too.

Glad you found a solution that suits Ivan!

Personally I carry a kids cool-bag with me, atm it's a lego Batman one , so wallet, work keys, gum, cigarettes, change, medication, heck even a toothbrush and mini toothpaste!

When I go away as I am doing 3rd week October, all of my house/car keys will go with me, if there's an emergency at home 2 of my neighbours have the front door key.

I find the door pockets perfect, unless it's something small and dark coloured, then it may be difficult to find.

About the phone, I made these holes in the cupholder, now it sits there nicely. When phone is out, still have two cupholders.

Agree it's amazing that a phoneholder is not just as standard as a cupholder

You can outboard the trigger switch in a convenient area by the drivers position.
Finally found a use for those useless rear seats: good for ammo belts and for catching spent brass.
The Sidewinder missiles are a nice touch.
Might be a little tough on convert tops, though...
