Everybody should have a home safe to keep valuables and keys and especially guns. I have a smallish safe bolted down conveniently near the back door of my home where I go in and out every day. I've gotten in the habit of putting my car keys in the safe the moment I walk in. Its got rows of hooks on the back of the door to hang keys. I use detachable key rings and only take with me just the keys I'm going to need. It'd be easier for a car thief to hotwire the cars than get the keys from the safe. In addition to security, I never misplace my keys anymore since I started this habit.
But on my soapbox, I would like to pass on an anecdote about gun security while I've got a chance to save you some grief. I'm not into guns like I am into cars, but back in college I worked at an outdoor sporting goods store and learned a lot about gun security from the frequent visits by local police and the ATF who were always there tracing gun paperwork and telling stories. Drug addicts want your guns more than anything because they can trade guns directly for drugs, not having to pawn them them and convert to cash first like they would jewelry or electronics. We had criminals that staked out our store, learned who our frequent customers were, followed them home, learned their daily routine and then broke in to steal their guns. Like our Jaguar forum members, the more often you visit the Jaguar parts counter, the more Jaguars you are likely to own. If you own guns, I implore you to keep them in a safe or at least a locked closet, and please don't display any gun-related window stickers, don't advertise that you own even one, let alone show strangers that you are a gun collector and do not take a direct route home from a gun store or shooting range, rather make sure you are not being followed home from such places.
Sorry to get further off topic, but just to relate it back, if you leave your unused keys and fobs in a safe at home (you should have one for your guns and other valuables anyway), then that's one less thing you have to find a place for when you empty your pockets before a drive. And nobody can easily steal your "other" Jaguar while you're at the parts counter.
I'm pushing you off the soapbox, and now it's my turn. I have enough guns to make headlines if I ever lost my mind, I'd be characterized as, a gun nut, white supremacist, drug dealer, and whatever else they could think of. I am not. I have a big, big gun safe, and all valuables go in that, save a few well hidden ,but easy to get to pistols and one revolver. Most real gun guys do pretty much the same. Now getting back to your original thread, yes,yes it's a dumb question, put some crumpled paper towels in the center and you will be able to get at it when you need it. I carry all the same **** you do, and my little friend, and have no problems. Also don't you have a center console? That works too,and the glove box, handy accessorie also. If none of these work, get a purse, just make sure it matches your sundress....
Sorry if this comes off a little mean, but you set me up, that was a great straight line.

Reason: Forgot something
My ill-fated S2000 had the famous "secret compartment" (behind the storage area between the seats) which held my little peashooter very nicely, as well as some small emergency cash. Have any XK/XKR owners discovered any "secret compartments" to stash...stuff?
(We'll keep the secret among our little group...).
Just did my first 'long distance' drive with the new gap filler. Its perfect. No more things falling off the seat during tight corners. The built in cup holder is the same size as the smaller built in unit. Since it came as a two pack, wife stole the other one for her car.
I guess some people, or even most, are different than others. I've never once dropped anything between the seats and console on my XKR. Course I usually don't HAVE anything with me anyway.
My wife occasionally drops stuff in HER car, but she's a scatterbrain.
Maybe this is a dumb thread, I dunno. I can't be the only one that always struggles with this.
Typically, I travel around with a phone, a wallet and a bunch of keys. I have a hard time figuring out where to put things. Putting them on the passenger seat often finds them flying onto the floor at some point during the drive. I don't like the door panel, as it is not easily accessible while seated in the car with the door closed. I really don't like the windshield mounted phone holders, as it obstructs the view in the already short windshield. I don't like the phone mounts that clip to the vents, as I feel like the vent has the possibility of breaking, and I'd rather not deal with that.
Too bad manufactures don't offer some convenient places to put things while driving around. A built-in place for a phone would be ideal. None of them do this that I know of.
I thought about getting a headrest bag for the passenger seat. Should be pretty easy to reach over behind the seat and grab into it. But...I dunno.
Any solutions?
Thanks.
This solution may be a little simplistic, but it works for me. I took out the cup-holder leaving a very convenient felt lined box that readily holds my phone, wallet and keys. I never eat or drink in my car. It is a dangerous distraction, besides, who needs a car that smells like a cheap cafe LOL. Similarly, I never need to SEE my phone when driving -- if I am using the GPS I listen to directions and STOP if I need to actually look at the map. An I certainly don't talk on the phone or text while driving.
This reminds me of a few other equally pertinent questions.
1) At what outside temperature should I lower my windows? Is there an optimal height you'd recommend? How fast should I go with the windows all the way down?
2) What do I do with my hands while I'm driving?
3) What's the optimum height to put the steering wheel at while I'm getting road head?
What do you guys do? I just can't figure any of that out on my own.
Regarding phone: I have a variation of these nifty pockets that insert between the seat and the console. I just plop my phone in, and have a charging cable clandestinely nearby.
Regarding keys: There is no solution to a key ring in any proper car ever made. I rarely need keys when in the XKR.... for chores requiring keys I'm usually driving the F150. Plenty of storage space there.
Regarding wallet: A nice slim wallet should always be in your front pocket. If you have something other than a nice slim wallet, route through your stuff and discard what you really don't need, then splurge on a nicely crafted slim wallet. My current Orvis wallet is going on 7 years daily duty.
the best thing about these is when you're for falls out of a shallow pocket, you can get it

1. Never put down the windows that's why we have a/c
2.check for boogers, in public, it's nasty
3.down,so she can't pull off.
I am several generations along in my project to create a substitute XK ashtray that can be a phone mount with Qi charging. I have two versions, a charge plate versions that props up and charges a phone that fits into the XK ashtray opening (like the new iPhone SE) and the vent-substitute version for holding a mounting designed for an air vent, usable for larger phones. I am attaching some photos of my SLS printed prototypes of these two versions.
The vent-substitute version in white and two generations of the integrated charge plate version. Latest generation charge plate version. Charge plate version installed in place of factory ashtray. Happy iPhone SE charging and displaying Google maps.

Seriously, you shouldn't be driving a car if you need help organising three items to store in a car that has two sealed receptacles and door pockets + cupholders.

I created a Shapeways store where people can buy prints. The Vent Mount version is good to go now. The Charge Plate version is still being perfected so it is not yet for sale.
The all in cost for someone else to use my models to build an ashtray will be $100-$120. Somewhere around $80 to print, plus shipping from Shapeways, plus the cost of the charger. The charger I used in the charge plate version is $10 on Amazon, and the charger I use with the vent mount version is $20 on Amazon. Those can be bought on Amazon directly and I will provide the links in Shapeways.
I printed the Jaguar logo on sticker paper and stuck it on the cap of the charge plate version, which is a separate part from the ashtray.
It will take me a few days to perfect the charge plate version. The vent substitute version is ready to go.

Great idea! I also did this and can now get 2 water bottles and both our phones in here- happy days
My iPhone fits absolutely perfectly into the ash try area. Slide the cover forward, insert phone, navigation app running, and let the cover slide back to hold the phone in place regardless of cornering force.

I thought removing the cup-holder was an excellent idea and removed mine. At the bottom of the exposed felt lined hole there is a hinged rectangle of plastic, under which there is some kind of electrical device. Please see the attached two photos. Anybody know what the electrical devise is please? The plastic rectangle

Another question...
To remove the cup-holder (see my last post) I had to lift the armrest and I noticed, for the first time, a little sliding flap with some strange thing under it. Anybody know what it is, please? See my two photos attached.
