Default Anyone heard this before?

I was getting gas yesterday and a fellow was admiring the Jag (as well he should) and asked me if it was the "Hellcat" engine. I responded I'd personally never heard it called that. I've only heard Dodge engines called Hellcats, but am pretty sure he couldn't have mistaken the XKR for a challenger. I'm wondering if there was a reference I'd never heard of before.

Nah, I think he maybe doesn't grasp what the Dodge marketing is. He may think that Hellcat is a type of engine, not a moniker. I've had people ask me really weird and off-the-wall stuff, like "Is that a rotary engine?" and "How many RPMs does it have".

Regardless, I would have punched the guy in the face for such an offense...and kicked him when he was down, for good measure.

probably didn't have a clue but...the high efficiency heads for the v12 way back in the late 70's had some weird slang attached to them indicating that they were 'hot' stuff. (and they were...raced one up to 126mph when he finally started to fade...I was driving 350 hp turbocharged mb 450)

He was probably being a smartass trying to make a joke. Your Jag is a big cat that looks fast as hell. Hence, powered by Hellcat.

I've spanked hell cats on many occasions with my XKR and never lost a race to a Dodge or any other car that's bone stock and only had a tie with a 2021 Audi RS6.When a fool ask you something like that, they refuse to accept the truth that a bone stock XKR is faster and think only a "snail cat" engine could make an XKR faster than what it is

He probably thought it was a Dodge. There are some many people that really don't know your car is a Jag.

It's so hard to tell, indeed...can't blame them.

"Hellcat" is an engine naming of the GM family of makes, to which Dodge belongs.

If you have been working on the engine, it is very difficult to deny the amount of FoMoCo parts on the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine.
You find "FoMoCo'" on the injectors, the coil packs, various tubings and housings, and many other parts in the XK.

Also in design, the Jaguar AJ-V8 is very similar to the Ford "Coyote" V8 engine, as used in Ford Mustangs.

My take is that the Jaguar 2006+ MY variant actually uses the main components made by Ford (e.g. castings etc.) of the Ford Coyote block, but with adapted details and specs (camshafts, pistons, bore, stroke, etc.).
The assembly of the engines is done in the Jaguar factories.

So whether it is a Ford or a Jaguar engine? That is very much a matter how you define things.

Ummmm, Dodge’s part of the Fiat group, NOT GM…..

As for misidentification, mine’s been called a Cadillac, Maserati and a Porsche.

I owned a convertible 2003 xk8 for several years. A neighbor, right across the street from me, approached me one day to buy my porsche. After I told him it was a Jag, he bought it anyway.

I'm gonna jump to conclusions here and guess they saw the jaguar logo on the grille or something and mistook it for the hellcat logo... I mean they're both "cats" to someone that doesn't really know.
