Angry Well this sucks

Welp, my Mr12Volt failed a couple of weeks ago and stopped recognizing my USB port or connecting to bluetooth. My phone shows it to be connected, but the Mr12Volt screen is perpetually stuck at the "connecting" animation. After multiple soft and hard resets that didn't change things, I decided to try getting email support from Mr12Volt but all that was suggested was to update the operating system via the USB port. Since the USB port was the first to fail, that's not really an option. I'm a few months past the 12-month warranty period but was hoping I could maybe get a goodwill replacement in exchange for my unit which I would be happy to ship back for testing. No response for two weeks so I decided to follow up earlier today. Was ecstatic to get an email stating that they would send me a replacement and to send my order number. I send my order number only to get another email stating that I was not eligible for a replacement since I am out of the warranty period .

Oh well. Hope everyone's units last longer than mine did or at least fail within 12 months. As much as I liked it when it worked, I can't bring myself to throw another $440 on something I'm not sure will last the remainder of my time with the car.

Ouch. That’s not encouraging news. I’ll likely be 5-6 months into the warranty before I even install the thing.

There is a firmware update, although I think it is specifically for iPhone 17 to work.
The firmware isn’t done through USB, it is done through the SD card slot (mini? micro? Can’t remember) on the front of the unit.

Give that a whirl and let us know how it turns out.

Yep, mine is still in the box next to my desk waiting for install. It's only been about a month so far for me, so that's...... good?

Hmm the instructions on the support page all talk about preparing a USB stick and the support guy asked as well if I could get USB media to work. I guess I'll go look for an SD card and give it a shot. Can't say I'm too optimistic though since I just have an old iPhone 14.

I'd doubt that a firmware update will cure the issue.

I was leaning a bit towards the bluetooth module, just hoping the free solution is the one that works.
Time and testing will tell.

@Simon Tan Reach out to @liambiggs just for input. The latest update is only for the iPhone 17 so it won't help you. I think there was a Prior firmware update, though don't recall what it was for, That is done through the micro SD slot the @Circumnavigator mentions. Don't both BT and wifi need to be active?

I can answer that. Yes. It connects me to Bluetooth and I get a pop up to turn on WiFi.
then fires up.

yes but my post was to @Simon Tan. I was being polite by phrasing it as a question as he was an early adopter. wifi has to be on as well as BT and wifi selects m12v as it's option. On mine if wifi isn't connecting to m12v (can happen when I'm in my garage and wifi is still connected to home wifi), the unit just spins as you describe.

Ahh yes. I’ve had that happen a couple times.
i just turn off WiFi and BT and start with BT only.
Then it prompts on my phone to turn on WiFi and connects.

It's a New Year's Miracle! Or maybe I'm just an idiot. But either way my Mr12Volt is working again. I didn't do anything new and didn't get around to trying to update the firmware, but all of a sudden Car Play is connecting again. The only thing I can think of is there was an IOS update on my phone that may have forced all wireless connections to reset. No idea what did the trick, but I'm just glad it's back.

Hey guys. I've been slowly upgrading the sound in my XK (while having lots of repairs documented elsewhere). I wondered how the quality of the sound was with the Mr. 12Volt. Since it connects through MOST, is it able to not use/get rid of the horrible DSP that's baked into the OEM system? I'm currently using an extra screen Carplay unit that hooks into my Invery Ipod Adapter, but that still has the factory DSP that is very shrill. I would like to try a better way, but only if it lets me flush the DSP from the OEM system.

It does run through the DSP of the factory audio system. I have the DSP turned off.

My DSP doesn't have an "off" button.

Question Install Mr!2volt in convertible XK?

I have a 2011 XK convertible. I was delighted to stumble upon the Mr12volt CarPlay/android auto interface system which I purchased and hoped to install today, the first Saturday after receiving it. Immediately ran into a problem. The first step shown in their installation video (gosh I wish they had written instructions!) is to install a loop to bypass the XK's native USB system. The video shows the native unit to be inside the right rear fender. Unfortunately, the vehicle in the video is a coupe. I have a convertible. The location shown in the video is entirely taken up with elements of the convertible top mechanism. Does anyone happen to know where this unit is located in the convertible? Has anyone successfully installed Mr12volt in a convertible XK? Thanks!

It’s behind the convertible top pump…I removed the insulation around the pump to make it more accessible, be careful to reinstall the insulation. It’s not necessary to plug into the controller once the loop is in place.
