Default Apple Play for 2008 XK

Hi - I’m looking to see if I can get an updated infotainment unit with apple play in my 2008 XK. Is there a unit I can buy? Does it need to be configured? Is it straightforward to install.

This is about all you can get. There was another more OEM option a few years ago, but those are gone...

I have a CarPlay unit that I used in my 2009 XK. It is a kit that I got from Cambo, a moderator on this forum. It worked well, connects wirelessly, requires aux audio to be activated via SDD or Autologic. Installation instructions by Cambo have lots of pictures and detailed instructions. I removed it when I installed the Tesla style screen. If you want more info, send me a pm.

If you don't want that anymore and Mus isn't interested, I may be for my kid's 2007 XKR. He hates the sound in it. I'd have to ask him first of course. Cambo may eventually reconsider making these again someday.

Thanks arenaej, that’s interesting, if you still have it be keen to explore and see how I can get it fitted

I bought one of those dongles on eBay to stream my iPhone music to the car. After returning a couple of them, the best I can get is Bluetooth music played on the rider's side speakers - nothing on the driver's side. Not sure whose damn electronics are to blame - Chinese dongle, Brit car design, head unit, or unhealthy union of the bunch!

The kits for CarPlay & Android Auto in the XK factory screen have always been available but the problem is activation of the AUX input.

It's relatively easy in an early car up to 2009MY using the automated routine in SDD, but 2010MY-onward needs some more effort.

We made a patch for the newer / current SDD versions that provides an automated routine to activate the AUX in 2010-onward cars, even a dealer could do it if they were a bit open minded.

Once you have AUX, you can have the kit.

So THIS will be cool. It's like a brand new TSD.

no, sorry, its always difficult when an OP hasn't given a location to advise on any issues of spares/ supplies etc, and I didn't see which markets we were discussing.

Surprised you weren't aware of this. It's been available for a few years now. I have on in my 07. Works great. Where @arenaej and I differ are the screen controls from the Tesla Style units. He's fine with them, me not so much. I went to Cambo's set up for that reason but man do I miss the sound quality of the Tesla Unit.
