Default Automatic locking?

Does anyone know if it is possible to program the Smartkey system to automatically lock after you leave the car (without pressing any buttons)? It is sometimes referred to as passive locking on other cars. The owners manual makes reference to having the dealer program the system to automatically arm the alarm 30 seconds after leaving, but also states this does not lock the car. This feature really makes little sense since I can't see any way to lock the car without arming the alarm at the same time. I had the passive locking/arming feature on my '07 Corvette and I really liked the convenience.

I can understand not wanting to fumble with finding your fob to press a button to lock the doors, since you don't take the key out of the ignition to stop the engine. But how hard is it to push the button on the door handle as you're getting out of the car and closing the door? Get over the lack of passive locking. Take responsibility for locking your car every time you get out of it. Your car doesn't put the seatbelt on for you when you get in it; you take responsibility to do it yourself. How is locking the car any different? STOP WHINING!!!!!

erm... the only way to lock/unlock my 07 is to use the keyfob. Keyless start was a standard feature. Keyless entry was a £430 optional extra.

Stuart S - the OP asked a question on "how to".....not your personal opinion on whether he should or shouldn't do this or that for that matter, and certainly didn't ask for you to tell him to "stop whining" in Capitals with 5 exclamation marks and a head slapping icon!
You are a new member here and the OP has been here for a few years.....I strongly suggest you either read or re-read the forum rules. This site prides itself on being friendly and helpful.....If you can't or won't be either you'll be removed, simple!

Use the Global option in the vehicle settings menu.

In my car (2010 XKR) the Global setting ON means when you press and hold the lock button on the key all windows close too. I've almost read the manual from cover to cover and haven't come across any way to have the car lock itself - in fact the manual says in bold type a number of times that the car will not lock itself.

You can however set it so as the alarm comes on automatically (if you forget) by enabling "Passive Arming" via the touch screen.

Other models may be different.

Regards

Brent
