Default Back up Light '07 XKR

Don't want to sound ignorant, but only one of the back up lights work. Dealer said this is normal, because it's a European car. If true, why have 2 lights

That's normal for the 07 and up XKs. One side is fogs, one side is the reverse lamp. There's another thread in this section somewhere specifically discussing this. See if you can find it by searching 'backup' or 'reverse'.

I believe the 2010 with LED taillights now have twin reverse lights but like h20boy said pre 2010 only have 1 reverse light.

I've tried explaining to people that warn me that one is actually a fog light, but their response is usually, "no, one of your reverse lights is out."

So now I just thank them for their assistance and go on my way.

You know, it is amazing how much you can learn about your car if you only read the Owner's Manual! One is the backup light, the other is the rear fog lamp. If you're reading this, you can read the manual on line. Here's the link for the rear fog lamp:
http://www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com/extfree2viewjagprod/servlet/peachviewfile?t=1287440671356/index.htm

"Depending on market, the single rear fog lamp is located on either the rear left-hand or right-hand side of the vehicle. The rear fog lamp can only be switched on if the low beamheadlamps are on or if the side lamps and front fog lamps are switched on. Press the switch to turn on the rear fog lamp. Pressing the switch again will turn off the rear fog lamp.
Note: Both front and rear fog lamps will be turned off when the ignition is turned off,but will not be illuminated when the ignition is turned on again. The rear fog lamp should only be used when visibility is severely restricted by fog."

Too funny, I just bought my first Jaguar, 2007 XK Coupe, and was upset because I thought the left light was out! Now if I can get the dealer to account for the curb rash and door dings that weren't accounted for.

I always amazes me how we are the evil ones.......until all other options are exhausted. Then we're "Ok".

I'm so glad I found this post. Just had the car in for service today and as my wife was pulling out while I was paying I looked out to see that (what I thought) was a reverse light out. After figuring out how to get it out I kind of cursed when I realized it was a sealed unit and that I'd have to buy it from Jag. Thanks again Jaguar Forums for the excellent knowledge base!

I am a less than 30 day owner of 2008 CPO XK conv and my wife noticed early on one of the reverse lights was out (as well as an amber front parking light). When I expressed dismay on this forum about two lights being out on such a new car I luckily was advised by a member about the reverse lights. So I only needed one bulb replaced (at no charge).

Ah, no the dealer is correct. Jeez. Only one reversing light (drivers side) and the other one is a fog lamp. Read your owners manual and listen to the dealer. I think they'd know.

Posted.2010 tail-lamp upgrade, is the way to go.
Expensive! But well worth the price.
There are two reverse lights and two fog lights.
Shame on Jaguar for being so cheap and not doing it right
the first time.

The Mercedes G55 has a very similar set-up, only 1 reverse lamp. I was not under the impression that Jaguar or Mercedes were being cheap.
