There is a new option that looks perfect on many levels. (I am tied up at the moment and unable to experiment for the group, but will do this winter, perhaps someone may want to take the lead)
1. Its truly wireless- not only for the connection from camera to screen, but also the power to the camera. (its ingeniously solar powered, and can be charged by cable)
2. The screen fits in the ashtray
3. you can turn it on with hand gestures whenever you want, without or before putting it in reverse gear.
4. its very affordable, and integrated.
5.I would pay $100 just for that smart looking license plate cover
I have had one of the wireless versions(non-solar) on the back of my F-350 Dually for 10 years, works great. Even put one on the back of my 38' Toyhauler and it works good there too.....no way would it go on my XKR with that separate display unit somewhere. Now if it would wireless feed into my Info Screen, I am on board.

No you have the wrong end of the stick.
Do this and you will have the eureka moment
Take an older 6" phone or a iphone and place it in the ashtray
Its a perfect and natural fit in an unused area, it doesnt even look out of place like the Mercedes tablet display.
And the power plug is right there too so no wires showing
The viewing angle is just right too. By this I mean its out of the sun and you can see perfect.
The other upshot is never having to leave the screen you are on with the built in display. As you know from the backup sensor screen, the transition time is not so quick.
My local Atlanta Costco didn't have it, and Customer Service checked and said it was not in any warehouse on the east coast. They don't know if or when they'll get it in stock. It's not available online (yet).
My BIG THANKS to Queen and Country for going beyond the call of duty to help me get this amazing backup cam. I ordered it over the phone from the Nashville Costco warehouse and he picked it up and mailed it to me. Unfortunately, when he tried to buy one for himself, for some reason Costco had already pulled their remaining inventory from the shelves and wouldn't sell one to him. Hopefully, he can find another retailer.
This is a great backup cam for $124. Super easy to install and operate, and the display unit is inobtrusive because it fits perfectly in the ashtray with no visible wires. Remove the existing license plate and reinstall it in the new license plate frame with the integrated solar powered backup cam. Get in the car, start the engine, open the ashtray, attach the power cord to the display unit and plug it into the cigarette lighter socket. Get out of the car and press the "on" button on the license plate frame and... done! The display now shows the rear view. Grid lines can be turned on or off and are adjustable. All the adjustments buttons are on the top edge. The display is turned on with a swipe of the hand and turns off automatically, but a quick swipe of the hand turns it right back on. No interior mods are needed if you use the ashtray; an adjustable mount is included but I chose to not use it. The frame does not obstruct the button to open the trunk.
It's a great supplement to the OEM Parking Aid system.
Sure, I'd rather have a backup cam that's integrated into the touchscreen. But that can't be installed in less than 15 minutes for $124 ... and no aggravation!
There are many advantages over an integrated system.
I dont particularly like the logic behind our current integrated radar system, which mutes the radio and automatically treats you like an invalid every time you put the car in reverse, and one has to hit the disable button to shut it up.
I have found more instances where I am scrambling to turn it off.
This backup system allows you to turn it on if and when you need it, and ahead of time without lag- without pushing any buttons!!
If Q&C or anyone else finds a retailer with inventory, please post. Their website list several, including Amazon, but non have this particular item.
Yup. If anyone else sees any, I am looking for one as well.
I would give $300 for one right now.
Stuart stepped up and grabbed the hand of opportunity and purchased one without even knowing how he would get it shipped. Fortune favors the bold, he deserves to have the only XK with this camera.
P.s. I hope the one finger salute is not the hand gesture that activates this, mine would be turning on all the time.
Because you're from Hastings, you'll appreciate that Winston Churchill's autopsy revealed that the index finger of his right hand was paralyzed. Now you know what Churchill really meant when he raised his hand and gave Hitler and the ***** his famous "V for Victory" salute!

Currently Costco doesn't have the solar cell license plate option; WinPlus say's they will have in about 4 weeks!! And Costco will be their only supplier!
Want one for my wife's XK8.............because her BUL is not on trunk lid and requires wire via the hinge! .If I like it . I will get one for my XK too.
I don't have a Costco close to me, so no account. But decided this morning to check and find that they now have this camera listed on-line. No indication of in-store inventory. https://www.costco.com/Type-S-Solar-...100425010.html
Please don't buy them out until I can get a friend to get mine next week

The Type S HD Quick Connect Wireless Backup Cam described in my Post #11 does NOT get wired to the backup light. For that reason, it is not automatically activated when you shift into reverse. You have to swipe your finger across the top right of the display to wake it up. That's a minor inconvenience for such a great device. Your hand is already on the shift knob, and the display is right there, in the ash tray. The only "wiring" is to plug the display unit into the cigarette lighter. The license plate frame contains the camera and the solar panel for power; nothing to wire there.
Note that you can also use this as a front camera parking aid to avoid those nasty concrete barriers that are just high enough to damage your front spoiler. Simply use it as the frame for your front license plate if you have one.
