The reverse light is an LED setup, so it uses pulsed voltage (or something like that) to make it work right. It's not a typical HOT 12VDC when activated.

 

Thanks everyone for all your help. I disconnected it so it no longer comes on automatically when I put it in reverse and just put in a button and the reverse light is working. Not as convenient but workable and I already had a button for the front camera so good enouth for now. amd at this point I'm thinking of selling and going to a F-Typer or back to a late modle XJ so not goiong to mess with it anymore.

 

Check the auto reverse wire of camera is connected, some prople threadle it all through the tailgate to the reverse light.
No need to feed down tailgate etc etc, you can tap into the reverse wire where it goes into the auxillary fuse box between the back seats 👍

Green plug connector: CA023/4
/4 is the fourth wire across in the plug
Orange and green colour
