Anytime I hear stories of instant fuel cut off/on I think electrical. The fact that you arent getting any codes adds to the mystery. Please follow up if, when you find the culprit.

I am with you on this. I was topping up my tank after which on subsequent fill-ups, the pump handle would just keep clicking and stop filling. Very frustrating when it happens, can sometimes take 15-20 minutes to fill the tank. The codes I saw when analyzed was evap code. I checked the evap system for leaks, bad sensors, crimped lines. Finally replaced the evap canister, major job, it is on the gas tank. After which it only happened when I would top-off, so I stopped doing that ****. Have not had a problem since, going on two years.

.

DaveTW,

Topping off your fuel tank is a bad idea, and you just proved it. Doing so damaged your evaporative canister.

Overfilling the gas tank can cause liquid gasoline to enter the evaporative canister, which is designed only for vapor. That's why it's called "evaporative" - it's not for liquid. When you topped off your fuel tank, you reduced the empty space in the tank that's needed for the liquid gasoline to expand. Without sufficient space to expand, excessive pressure built up in the tank, which forced that liquid gasoline into the evaporative canister. That killed the canister and caused your engine to run rough. That's why you had to get a new evaporative canister.

Gasoline is highly volatile and its vapors are explosive and powerful. If you can smell it, that might be the last time you ever smell anything. You're lucky you didn't have a gasoline leak and blow up your car.

Fortunately, you drive a Jaguar. You now have 8 lives remaining. The road of life is short, so enjoy the ride in your Jag!

Default Smooth Day Yesterday

Well I figured I'd see what happens. I drove it for about 2 1/2 hours yesterday. Unfettered highways and wide open canyon roads higher RPM., low RPMs. Standard mode and dynamic mode. It ran perfectly and without hesitation. On the way back I had a lot of stop and go traffic and no problems whatsoever.

Before this drive. I filled the tank with 76 super. Or at least I should say early on in the drive.
