Talking Rear Splashing Sounds in the Back - RESOLVED

So in the back of the car I'm hearing this loud splashing sound like gallons of water. You can hear it when you stop and jerk forward like gallons of water being pushed around. I'm guessing the gas tank but I do not know why all of sudden you can hear the gas inside splashing around.

The gas tank is under the back seat. If you hear it now but never used to, I bet your driving habits are more aggressive than they used to be...or you aren't turning the radio up as loud??

It just started a day ago and it's in the back. You can hear it when you stop like water in a bottle being shaken around.

You checked your spare tire well for water? Otherwise it can only be the gas tank. I seriously doubt your gas tank got louder in one day.

Make sure your door drain holes are clear it could be water trapped in the bottom of the door

Lol it's the strangest thing I've never heard it before and then all of sudden there's this splashing sound. I'm pretty sure it's the gas tank since I'm getting lower on gas and the sound is getting more quite.

There are no baffles in the fuel tank so i can't imagine how one day it suddenly starts sloshing...

Get someone to ride in the back seat & in the boot to see if they can hear exactly where the sounds are coming from.

(no joke, when I had a suspension knock in my old X-Type, the guys in the workshop put the apprentice in the boot & went for a drive, he worked out where it was coming from)

Cambo,
If they had not built the water water park near you I'd think the apprentice was trying to sneak into to drive-in movie!!!

Seriously though +1 for water under the tyre or in the rear doors

Cheers

I would assume rear doors as well, had it in a 1947 Chev I once owned.

Riding in the boot got a bit crowded when I was teenager going to the speedway. The gate guys peered into the car and charged per person before you parked.

As others have said, check the spare tire well. Also check the doors, by seeing if they slosh when swinging them back and forth - the drain holes at the bottom of the doors can get clogged, and when they do, you can hear a fair bit of water sloshing around.

Mystery Solved! The driver back door was full of water! I mean full! We had a lot of rain last week and must have backed up. Got the drain holes unblocked and all good! Thanks

Awesome! I love it when solutions turn out to be simple. And, thank you Jag for aluminum bodies!

Great! We have had a lot of water in Ohio.

Now we know why all the door speakers stop working
