Default 2004 XJ8 Steering Column Tilt

I am having a problem with the tilt on the steering column. it seems to move up or down but only travels about a 1/4 of an inch. the in and out seems to travel the normal distance. i have notice that it uses the same motor to activate both. Is this a memory problem or limit switch problem? having problems to see the speedo as I am tall and the wheel does not tilt up enough. seem to start acting this way after flashing central control module.

After taking the bottom covers off below the steering column, I found the resistors for the tilt adjust. it's actually one unit for both tilt and extend. I took it loose and manually slid the slider and was able to move (tilt) the column up and down. I tried spray cleaning it but it still didn't work when placed back to normal condition.
So to solve a simple problem of tilt adjust, I adjusted it the the position that was best for me and disconnected the movement switch so no one can adjust it. I do miss the move away feature when entering or exiting the vehicle.
I am going to research the part to see if there is a replacement.
