2007 XK

My upper control arm has a torn sleeve on the ball joint. I'm having a clunk from my suspension but thought it was the shock because I didn't get it torqued down properly. I haven't put back together yet because I'm wondering if it might be the ball joint. Will that cause a clunk when going over bump or is it just to protect the ball joint from getting dirt in it?

 

protection from dirt alone. And if the ball joint has lost lube…

 

Rbing....Just for your information....if you decide to inspect the boots at the rear upper and lower control arms,rear outer tie rod ends, and rear sway bar links, you might see torn boots as well. It's quite common on our cars for the material Jaguar used for these boots to disintegrate over time.
