On Double-Lock? A single press of the fob lock button locks the doors, and a second press sounds the beep. Same with the buttons on the exterior door handles. The second press (Double-Lock) isn't really a thing in the US marketed cars, but in other markets the double lock makes the doors unopenable from the INSIDE.
Regardless, have you tried pressing the button two-three-four times in a row? Does a single press lock the doors? Does the boot opener button open the boot?
You may have a bad Fob Battery.
Need More Information!!!

I have pressed it once, twice and more. Still no beep. Yes, the boot opener button works. It doesn't beep when doing the same with door handle buttons. Thanks.

Alarm sounder is at fault as per IanXF's post. I had the same thing, seems fairly common. On the UK cars it's on the right (driver's) side of the engine bay underneath the bonnet airbag behind the coolant header tank. The airbag has to come out to replace so disconnect the battery and wait twenty minutes or so before messing with that. Access to the bolts etc. is a pig so flexi socket extensions will help a lot.

+1. My sounder was replaced under warranty.

Talking Huh

So there's supposed to be a "beep"? Either I can't hear it or it's become defunct, but I don't care.

Only beeps on a quick two-press. OR, keep a door or the boot open and try to lock.... there SHOULD be a rapid two-beep to alert to the OPEN status.

Well, my light s flash but I can't discern a beep. My wife might be able to hear it though. I'm deaf, the VA said so!

Selective deafness is caused by marriage.

I have an excuse, for my left ear anyway. That's the side of the truck where the jets were running.
As far as 'wife' goes, if it's loud enough to bother me I'll answer. Quiet faint murmurs I ignore. Got tired of saying "WHAT???" all the time.

The doc said it was hereditary, but the above is a more plausible cause.

It's also the alarm sounder, so you may have no noise if the alarm gets triggered (can't recall if the horn goes as well).

Red face

My alarm definitely works! I really hate it sitting there, blowing the horn at me and I have no idea why...
