Hello, I'm a new owner of 2008 Jaguar XK that (a few weeks in) has already cost thousands of dollars in issues/repairs, but the latest one is an error message saying the roof latch will not close (and as a result the back windows will not go up, and there is no other window button). The repair shop in LA is quoting me $7000 to replace the entire roof (I'd prefer to replace whole roof as there are other issues with it, and they're quoting $2000 alone just to fix the latch). These costs are pretty difficult to stomach.

Does anyone know
1) any hacks/quick fixes to that error message (in case I can spare myself the work entirely, at least until a future payday), or
2) any suggestions of where/how to get a replacement roof in Los Angeles without spending half of what the car cost to buy in the first place? (I have seen the other forum threads, and impressed with people purchasing and self-installing but I'm sadly the capability to fix this myself).

Thank you
Julia

Whoa! That ‘not latched’ error and rear quarter windows down scenario is very common, and there’s several things to try to correct it.
Either use the search function in this forum, or google ‘hood not latched’ and read the threads in this forum about other owners with the issue.
Try the recommendations and solutions in those threads (start by making sure your battery is FULLY charged).

Ahhhh, it's a "hood" not a roof! Now you've corrected my sloppy British expat lingo, I can see lots of discussion about this issue so I'll have a deeper dive.
I'll try the battery recharge as well.
Thank you for your reply!

If you are unable to get it to function. Look for Steve Klonsky (thejaguarwrangler.com). He is also known as White XKR on the Forum. He is our convertible top (hood) expert and the inventor of the one touch top accessory; which is a wonderful most important addition to your vert. In addition to all that he is a very nice guy and extremely helpful. You can check out his top controller on his website mentioned above.

Check for broken sensor wires in roof on right side! I posted my repair a few months ago. Search for "Hood Not Latched"

Default Just replaced my top in mid Ohio

Check out this link to where I did my top. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...cement-277486/ , got the top from Tops Online in EBay store. Fit perfectly the installer was Tritex Corp in Columbus Oh. (Super professional and reasonable). Cost was $850 for the top and $1100 installation.
